Since its establishment in 2006 in Seosan City, Seorim Farm has supplied organically made healthy food onto our table. CEO Hyun Myeong-soon of Seorim Farm said “We value happiness of family above anything else. That’s why we’ve kept our passion in organic food from the moment we started our business and it always has become our driving force.” Eco-friendly Snail Sexy Rice is a good example to demonstrate this principle. The rice produced by releasing snail on the rice paddy is an eco-friendly method that can prevent even super weeds from growing by 99% and Seorim Farm uses Samgwang Rice breed which has the excellent taste and upgraded nutrition although the harvest is less than the normal breed. The rice also is fed by the first grade water from Daeho Bay and the polishing process is done by cutting edge polishing equipment. Yet the price is very competitive considering its nutritional value and excellent taste. Other product like the pickled cabbage is grown from the ‘bulgamplus seed’ and the organic compost, made of fowl droppings, eco-friendly rice bran and microorganism, strengthens its taste and nutrition. It is pickled by bay salt for 8 hours and washed 7 times by an automatic system. For this reason, the cabbage was called as ‘the best pickled cabbage’ by many consumers in 2006 and its popularity still continues. Other organic products of Seorim Farm include potato, sweet potato, radish, garlic, dried chili, soy bean paste, soy source and chili pepper paste. “Cheap imported agricultural products are threatening the domestic products. One way to compete with those, I think, is improving ‘taste and quality’ of the products. Of course it requires a considerable amount of effort but like there’s a saying ‘no pain no gain’ we will keep our principle to provide healthier and more quality food to our people” said Hyun in determination. 

“We will produce nothing but healthy food”
Hyun calls herself ‘the mother of Seorim’. It is her firm will to produce nothing buy healthy food like her family eat. The staff also call their name like ‘the uncle of Seorim’ or ‘the sister of Seorim’ and so on, instead of their name’ in the same mind and determination as Hyun. Apart from producing organic agricultural food, Seorim Farm is holding a variety of experience programs such as planting rice, harvesting, kimchi and source making and tofu making with visitors to the farm. In recognition of its contribution, Seorim Farm received a ‘6th industry enterprise certificate’ from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in 2015. “It’s important to pass down the tradition but accepting changes also is needed for the agricultural industry and culture to grow” emphasized Hyun. As part of this effort, Hyun is serving as the chairwoman of the Federation of Korea Rural Culture South Chungcheong Province. Last year, she introduced ‘Nuna Tteok-bokki (sister stir-fried rice cake)’. It is made of Eco-friendly Snail Sexy Rice, turmeric, wormwood, carrot, brown rice and black rice with traditional chili pepper paste and soy source. You can have it at the franchise restaurant in Dunsan-dong, Seo District, Daejeon. “We will keep carrying out R&D to produce more eco-friendly food that can be consumed with convenience” said Hyun. It is true that many of us already have become comfortable with fast food or fast things.
