MOGEF emphasizes on career training for school dropouts
The Minister of Gender Equality and Family Kang Eun-hee paid a visit to K-Dream (school dropouts support center) in Geumcheon District, Seoul on 16 last month to have a meeting with the officials of the center and the school dropouts who are preparing for school qualification exam or for returning to school in March this year with support of K-Dream. 202 K-Dream centers currently are being operated nationwide and 56,000 school dropouts as of 2016 received career consulting and study and job support. The K-Dream in Geumcheon District provides play, acting and vocal training classes in addition to the existing programs and the MOGEF from this year is running ‘job academy’ and ‘youth biz school’ to increase the employment rate of school dropouts in cooperation with small and medium businesses. Choi Mi-jin (19), a participant of the meeting said “I quit school because I couldn’t follow up the school curriculum designed for university entrance only while I wanted to do what I wanted to do. I found my talent in the play and music classes of the center and am thinking to level up my talent at a university in near future.” Kang said “It is very important for school dropouts to keep engage in various social and experience activities to find their talent and aptitude. K-Dream provides this need for them through all in one service covering from career consulting to job experience and support. The newly introduced ‘job academy’ and ‘youth biz school’ will also strengthen the effective programs of K-Dream.”

MOGEF improves regulations for startups
The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family studied on the result of ‘2016 Gender Impact Analysis Evaluation’ and advised the related government departments to improve regulations on women startups. The contents of the advice include improvement in sharing information on women venture enterprises and preferential treatment and expansion of R&D fund support. The advised departments are obliged to present reflective plans by 30 January this year and the performance report by the end of January 2018. The improvement plans also should coincide with 16 Women Enterprise Supporting Center and 150 Women Career Center nationwide to strengthen information sharing in addition to promotion of www.wbiz.or.kr (businesswomen portal). The advice also suggested providing information on technical evaluation standard within the boundary of ‘public system for venture enterprises’ with letting the companies know the result of evaluation thereafter. The head of the women policy division of the MOGEF said “We hope that the advice will improve the drawbacks of the current regulations so that more and more women can engage in economic activities.”
