Haemalgeun Kindergarten (Innocent Kindergarten Director Kim Mi-ja)
Putting wings on imaginations of children

Chavruta makes children top 1% of the world

On 20th December last year, a Chavruta teaching instruction book called [How do you think child?] for teachers was released in Korea. The book analyzes Chavruta teaching methods in detail and introduces some of the excellent cases. It has been several years that Korean's interest in Jewish education has increased but a book that contains the details of its educational contents has been hard to find. Director Kim Mi-ja of Haemalgeun Kindergarten wrote the book and it was a result of her years of study on Chavruta collaborated with professor Jeon Sung-su who serves as the president of Chavruta Education Association and Korean Society of Chavruta Education. Kim also serves in the same associations as the vice chief director in the former and the research director in the latter. Kim is an veteran educator whose experience in the field has marked 35 years today. "Chavruta is a traditional rabbinic approach to Talmudic study in which a pair of students analyze, discuss, and debate a shared text. Two children paring a team for debate and development is what makes it different from other teaching methods" explained Kim who exerted much effort in customizing Chavruta for Korean teachers. Kim continued "One cannot help facing the limit if he/she does not have experience no matter how good the theory is. All teachers at Haemalgeun Kindergarten for this reason passed the Chavruta certificate course and completed a 6 month training before they start to apply the method in the field. We also analyze the result of the teaching on a regular basis to improve or bring up better methods and encourage parents to be part of the education alongside their children at the Kindergarten" said Kim adding that "One might wonder how can a child can do a debate. But children are the ones who are most curious about anything in the world and who thus throw questions the most. This makes itself enough for a debate in Chavruta's point of view. Stimulating the power of thinking and arguing greatly affects their ability of imagination and speaking without limit."

Chavruta wakes hidden talent and potential of children
Haemalgeun Kindergarten opened its door in 2012 and has grown in trust of school parents under the slogan 'Happy and pleasant kindergarten' and 'Kindergarten that values future of children'. "I'm impressed by the parents who are eager to find quality education for their children and who show a great satisfaction on our Chavruta teaching method. Effective and constant communication between teachers and children are very important. Also, learning by playing often plays better than focusing on theory itself. The word 'education' is supposed to mean 'drawing from inside to outside' and I apply this to our Chavruta method to wakes hidden talent and potential of children." Kim has exerted her effort in introducing better ways of applying Chavruta for the last 4 years and the effort will continue as long as her passion pushes it forward. Kim added "Children's talent and potential are greater than we think. I will use Chavruta to draw and maximize these properties and I also plan to open a children's church in the future as a way of promoting this innovative teaching method." <Power Korea> sends a message of support.
