Who will run the Blue House after Park while Ban and Park Won-soon dropped out of the race?

Park’s duty as the president was suspended on 9 December as the result of the impeachment being passed the National Assembly by 234 in favor, 56 against, 7 invalids and 2 abstentions. While the impeachment bill is being examined at the Constitutional Court of Korea (CCK), Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn is acting for the president. On finishing his term as the chief justice of the Constitutional Court of Korea on 31 January 2017, Park Han-Chul said "Another justice of the court also is finishing her duty on 13 March and I think the decision must be made before that time to avoid a big problem in the composition of the Constitutional Court." With the court's impending decision on the impeachment of Park, people's interest in early presidential election is taking the center stage and the move of candidates are closely watched by the people. According to a survey carried out by the Yonhap News and the KBS, Moon Jae-in kept No.1 status with 21.6%, followed by Ban Ki-moon (17.2%), Lee Jae-myung (11.4%), Ahn Cheol-soo and Ahn Hee-jung (4.6%), Hwang Kyo-ahn (3.4%) and Park Won-soon (3.1%). A survey from the MBC and the Korea Economic Daily on the Korean New Year's day showed Moon 25.3%, Ban 16.3%, Lee 8.5%, Ahn Hee-jung 7.9%, Ahn Cheol-soo 6.6% and Hwang 5.4%.

Moon confident in job creation in public sector
He paid a visit to Majang-dong Community Center in Seongdong District, Seoul as his first move after Korean New Year's Day in an effort to learn Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon's itinerant welfare services and innovative administration as well as to see the possibility of his plan to create more jobs in public sector. He asserted on the day that his plan to create more jobs is achievable and he showed his will to work together with the mayor Park. Prior to the visit, Moo travel down to Busan on 20, one week before Korean New Year's Day. In front of the comfort women girl statue seating before the building of Consulate-General of Japan in the city, he criticised the negotiation for settling down the comfort women issues between the Korean and the Japanese governments. Moon then visited Hanjin Shipping (now bankrupt). "There must be strong measures to save the shipping industry in Korea and a need to establish the Korea Shipping Finance Corporation (tentative)" said Moon.

Ahn Cheol-soo struggles to secure votes from locals
He created 'Ahn Cheol Soo Syndrome' in the 2012 presidential election. He secured cement support from the people especially from those who are fed up with the established politicians for his drive and consistency in speech and action. The fever continued when The People's Party created yet another sensation in the general election in April last year and opened the era of the three party politics for the first time in Korea. In terms of his recent move though with significant drop in approval rating, he found a possibility of solidarity by meeting the former prime minister Chung Un-chan on 30 last month, agreeing on runoff-vote system for presidential election. The next day, he paid a visit to 'Limitless Creative Cooperation Space' in Yongsan Electronics Market, Seoul to experience virtual reality and 3D printing. On 1 February, he visited Daegu in an effort to secure a share of support. He had a look around Seomun Market, recently burnt down and moved to Seongseo Industrial Complex to share opinions on industrial development with officials of a textile company. "2017 will be the year of driving force to change Korea and we need the spirit of patriotism and democracy of the people in Daegu" said Ahn.

Lee shows strong disapproval to pro-Japanese Korean conservative
Lee registered his name for The Minju Party primary on 31 last month and said "I will fight as I always did." He continued that the keyword of the Korean politics was not 'person' but 'opposition party' in the way to change the regime and showed his strong disapproval to pro-Japanese Korean conservatives. "The primary must be the process of choosing the right one who will most effectively skim off corruption and unfair practices in the Korean society. Also, the one must be the leader who can integrate all opposition parties and pushes forward the reform" added Lee. He then visited Seoul National Cemetery to pay a respect to former presidents Kim Dae-jung and Kim Young-sam followed by another visit to May 18th National Cemetery in Gwangju.

Sohn Hak-kyu
He worked as a political science and diplomacy professor at INHA University in 1988 and the director of the social science research center of Songang University in 1992 and 1993. He stepped into politics as a 14th lawmaker of the democratic liberal party in 1992. Much praised as a veteran politician during his career but he retired from the political world when he failed in a by-election. September last year, he announced a come back. At the supportive night for the 10th anniversary of the East Asia Future Foundation on 13 last month, he said "I will gather warriors of reform for the 7th republic." He has not yet officially announced to run for presidential election but recently met Park Jie-won, the leader of the People's Party and asked 'integration between the powers' for a possible political '3rd zone'. Park said that he must be the first one to join the party but the decision is yet uncertain. Sohn also seems to be the thorn in the eye of the pro-Moon circle.

Ban quits the race
Born in Eumseong County in North Chungcheong Province in 1944, Ban Ki-moon is best known as the first Korean UN secretary general. Ban's diligence is well praised for he digested average 9.5 schedules a day during his term in the UN. He has no experience in domestic politics but being neutral has been playing advantageous to him. To everybody's shock, he suddenly announced to quit the race on 1 February. He even showed his will whether to join a party or form a new party the previous day. "Since returning to Korea on 12 January, I have toured the nation and met a lot of people from various backgrounds and listened to them. As the former UN secretary general, I have witnessed some failed leaders and countries and I was determined to do something for my country. But I only left a wound to the honor of the UN and brought a trouble to Korean people. So I decided to quit the race" explained Ban.

Park Won-soon also quits the race
Park also decided to quit the race. The latest survey shows that Moon 34%, Lee 9%, Ahn Hee-jung 7% and Park 4%. Some predicts that Park quit to support the candidate of the The Minju Party whoever it is. "I believe, this is the beginning of my true political career. I felt that there were many things to learn and I was not prepared yet as a politician. But I will give the best support I can to change the regime as a member of The Minju Party" said Park. His plan as the mayor of Seoul for now is to focus on job creation. The city has announced to pour 1 trillion won earlier than scheduled to create 320,000 jobs for young people. As the first move, Park is launching his project called 'New Deal Jobs' to create 60,000 jobs. He also plans to create jobs by reducing working hours to '40 hours a week, 1,800 hours a year' called 'the upper limit working hour system'.
