KOTRA holds '2017 Global Market Strategy Briefing Session'
KOTRA (CEO Kim Jae-hong) held '2017 Global Market Strategy Briefing Session' on 10 last month at COEX. The briefing brought up a need of focus on infrastructure, domestic market and e-commerce. 500 export related officials attended the 17th briefing session this year and keynote speech and strategy presentations took place on the day. It was the common request of the KOTRA regional heads that they gather strengthen for securing distribution channels and strategies for domestic market. As the number of middle class in the US, China, India and South East Asia is increasing, Korea needs to actively use FTA, Korean Wave and e-commerce with premium products that can satisfy the newly rising market demands. KOTRA North America head Kim Jeong-chun said "Number of middle class with higher education background is increasing in the region at the moment and strategies for new industries, on/off line distribution channels and public procurement therefore are needed. For this, we need to work together in close cooperation with buyers, power vendors and APO (Asia Purchasing Office) and the government also need to provide special programs for public procurement."

Kim focuses on export promotion
KOTRA CEO Kim Jae-hong announced to expand exports in the US and China starting from China, North America Trade Investment Expansion Strategic Meeting held early this year. Export volume to China has been recovering since November last year and the US is expected to see a 2% economic growth based on recovery in employment rate and consumption. To achieve 1 trillion dollar export volume this year, making a breakthrough in the two giant markets seem to be vital. For this, the first strategic meeting of the year was taken place in Hangzhou, China on 4 January. The headquarters of Alibaba is located in the city and the city also held G20 Summit last September. Kim held the meeting in the city in order to analyze China's tendencies on slow growth, domestic market-centered and industrial restructuring. 19 officials of KOTRA attended the meeting who brought up 3 strategies for export promotion  ¡ã partnering with global cutting edge parts materials and technology companies and expansion of new consumer distribution platforms ¡ã focus on new industries, environment and infrastructure ¡ã use of startups and Korea-China FTA. KOTRA CEO Kim Jae-hong said "KOTRA must play the vital role to expand exports in this age of uncertain economy and trade environment. All the staff of KOTRA are working based on 'communicative and responsible leadership' which was the slogan Davos Forum this year to secure more export channels."
