“시련은 있어도 포기는 없다!” 최고를 향한 구쎈의 저력
기술적 완성도와 가격 경쟁력을 확보하며 성장을 거듭해 온 구쎈은 지난 2015년, 인천시 유망중소기업상을 수상하며 다시 한번 조명 분야에서 앞서 나가는 기업으로 인정받았다. 그러나 같은 해, 구쎈에는 커다란 위기가 찾아온다. 10여 년간 거래해오던 콘덴서 제조업체에서 결함 부품을 공급하면서 이미 소비자에게 공급되었던 제품에 불량이 발생하게 되었고, 이를 전수 리콜 처리하는 과정에서 십여 억 원의 손실을 보면서 법인회생에 들어가게 된 것이다. 전병환 대표는 “신뢰와 신용이 무엇보다 중요한 기업현실에서 당시의 어려움은 자칫 기업의 존폐가 갈릴 수 있는 위기였습니다. 그러나 성실히 리콜에 임한 덕분에 오히려 소비자의 신뢰는 이전보다 더욱 좋아졌고, 협력업체들도 저희들의 고군분투하는 모습에 단 하나의 업체도 이탈 없이 지금까지 함께 해오고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다. 

당시의 위기는 전화위복이 되었다. 시련의 시간을 지나온 구쎈은 이를 계기로 대내외적인 체질을 강화할 수 있었으며, 내부시스템을 점검하고 비효율적인 문제들을 제거하는 기회로 삼았다. 또한 어려운 상황에서도 연구개발 분야에의 투자를 지속함으로써 세계적 수준의 기술력을 확보, 한 단계 도약하는 전환점을 맞기도 했다. 현재 구쎈은 일본 내 무전극램프 시장 점유율에서 최상위권 업체로 자리매김하고 있으며, LED조명 분야에서도 말레이시아에 조인트벤처 회사를 설립하여 동남아 시장을 선점하기 위한 사업을 펼치고 있다. 또한 일본, 미국, 독일 등에서 각종 인증 및 판매 실적을 거두며 대한민국 대표 무전극램프 전문 회사로 인정받고 있다.

지난 2016년 회생 인가를 받은 구쎈은 올해 상황이 호전됨에 따라 회생절차로부터의 졸업을 예상하고 있다고 전했다. 전 대표는 “지난 10년 동안 조명산업 외길을 걸으며 수많은 시행착오와 끊임없는 노력, 지속적인 연구개발 투자로 대한민국을 대표하는 조명기업의 위치를 확고히 다져왔습니다. 저희는 앞으로도 최고의 제품과 안정된 품질, 압도적인 가격 경쟁력을 통해 고객들에게 최상의 가치를 전달할 수 있도록 노력하겠습니다”라고 다짐을 밝혔다. 최고를 향한 이들의 도전과 열정이 대한민국의 밤을 환하게 밝혀주는 희망이 되길 기대한다.

Since Emperor Gojong lit incandescent lamps in Gyeongbokgung Palace in 1887, the lighting has become part of our lives with shining everywhere. Nowadays, lighting technology has developed rapidly and amazingly, therefore, the past lighting technology is gradually substituted for induction lamp or LED lighting as a new technology. For that, Korea’s lighting industry is facing a huge paradigm phase again.

Recently, the topic of lighting industry is energy saving, long duration and price. As the economic recession has been suspended, most of companies care about profits and expenses. GOOSSEN has improved time after time and they got awarded for promising small hidden champion in Incheon last 2015 thus, they are acknowledged again as for a leading company in this lighting field. However, in the same year, GOOSSEN got a crisis. They found a faulty in component providing for a condenser manufacturing company that they had worked for 10 years and had to recall all of them. During the process, they lost about a billion won and were under the corporation revitalization session. 

CEO Jeon, Byung-Hwan of GOOSSEN said, “It was a big ordeal to have been able to close the company at that time as the trust and the credit were the key to live up in the industry. But, we dealt with every recall with earnest and it was a chance to build the trust sincerely fortunately and other cooperative companies got inspired by that we were trying to get recovered. After all, our partners could be with us so far.” 

In a word, then-crisis turned out to be good out of evil. GOOSSEN went through the long tunnel and could be a strong backbone out of the time. They checked up everything in the system since that happened and removed ineffective problems. Even though they were in a difficult situation, the company continued investing in the R&D department so that they could be stand on the top quality in the world. Now, GOOSSEN is a superior company at sales in Japan with the induction lamp and built up a joint venture company in Malaysia with LED lamps for South-East Asia market by dominating first there. And, they got more reputation as a Korea’s best leading lighting company by getting some certifications and sales promotions in Japan, Germany and the USA. 

From 2016, finally GOOSSEN turned to expect to get back to the revitalization. CEO Jeon, Byung-Hwan of GOOSSEN made sure, “For last 10 years, we have only focused on light electric technology in the industry and were put under any circumstances.
