The kindergarten where children play and grow their dream
Director Park Su-jin of Easy Kindergarten

Playing becomes education

Opened in Gokbanjeong-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon City in 2013 as a private kindergarten, Easy Kindergarten is a 3 storey building designed and made of eco-friendly materials. The windows receive abundant lights and the toilet floors are heat-wired underneath to dry up the water lest children slip and hurt. The kitchen is designed hygienically with easy flow and the 1,983 square meter lawn playground surrounded by a forest provides children to play and learn in nature. Director Park said “It’s really hard for city children to experience nature these days. Suwon is particularly poor when it comes to it. That’s why I opened Easy Kindergarten to provide an eco-friendly space for children to play and learn.” The curriculum of Easy Kindergarten includes the 5 Nuri Courses of exercise and health, communication, social relation, art and exploration of nature with its own ‘play-based course’ in addition. Park said “’Forest experience’ especially is worth mentioning. It lets children realize the values of harmony and balance and work and life. Children grow vegetables, collect insects and observe animals and plants. And they cook with the vegetables and fruits they grow.” ‘Habit education’ also is notable as it helps children with better body posture, dietary and personality. While yoga, stretching, jump rope and stroll programs strengthen children body, music and meditation ease their mind. Healthy foods like vegetables, fruits and nuts are also encourage children to have better dietary habit.

The education that grows dream and widens imagination
Reading is a really important part of Easy Kindergarten. Teachers pick up a picture book for children aged 5 to 6 to grow their capacity in language, art and music and children aged 7 involve in discussions and debates. Children also are encouraged to pick a subject of their own interest for research and exploration twice per semester and children aged 7 in addition engage themselves in history course called ‘King Project’. Park said “It’s important for children to learn Korean, English and arithmetic. But more important is to let them play, learn and grow without stress because it affects forming their personality, self-respect and consideration to others. What I’m saying here in fact have been proved in advanced countries like the US and Germany.” Park studied forest education in the US and Germany and applied what she learned to Easy Kindergarten. Meanwhile, she is serving as the chairwoman of Suwon Private Kindergarten Association. Park said “Suwon City is showing a higher level of interest in children’s education than other cities at the moment. The city is providing support in various areas and I hope it will bear a good fruit. As for our part, we will also keep exerting our utmost effort in development children’s education in the city.” <Power Korea> wishes Park and Easy Kindergarten a great 2017.
