Innovative rice processing technology changes the map of future agricultural products

The value of nutritional rice bran

Established in 2012, INB is a company that developed innovative rice, rice bran and aronia processing technology and is providing consulting for agricultural related research, human resources and competitiveness of farm villages. With its motto ‘Food cures diseases’, INB is developing high valued added and bio foods and new concept rice related foods. CEO Jeong said “Rice is our stable food and takes the large part of agricultural products in Korea. But recent drop in rice consumption and price is adding wrinkles in the forehead of rice farmers. Tens of tons of rice brans go wasted except only some amount used for compost every year.” Rice bran is the embryo bud of rice which contains 90~95% of nutrition but easily changed or rotten in natural state by fat acidified enzyme which makes it difficult to use. The good news is, INB developed ‘Stable Rice Bran Processing Method’ to improve quality and stability of rice bran by controlling acidified enzyme with which INB introduced powder alternative, natural seasoning ingredients and brown rice extract. Jeong said “Stable Rice Bran Processing Method has increased utilization of wasted rice bran and can create yearly KRW 10 billion worth added value.” 

Suggesting a new direction for rice processed food
INB spread its name in the market by releasing ‘Rice Milk’ last year. It is made of 100% Korean rice and can be consumed as an alternative milk or soy milk. It helps digestion and is a low allergic drink. It has less fat than milk but has no cholesterol, which is good for diet, and is rich in vitamin, mineral and fiber. Jeong said “I worked for a large food company before and I studied a lot about rice drinks. Enzyme is used during sterilization process to prevent rice turning into porridge due to gelatinization action but our technology has made it possible to produce drinks that only contain nutrition of rice to the maximum level without sugar. It was the result of our 4 years of research.” Rice Milk is praised for both taste and nutrition and it can also be used for cooking and baking. Currently, INB is working on rice cereal in addition to the existing rice snack, rice noodle, instant rice and rice wine products and CEO Jeong is ambitious to grow the company as a role model in the agricultural food industry. <Power Korea> wishes Jeong and INB a fruitful 2017.
