스마트카의 새로운 이정표 제시
최근 세계 유수의 자동차 업체들이 주목하고 있는 주제는 바로 ‘커넥티드 카(connected car)’ 분야이다. 커넥티드 카는 말 그대로 ‘연결된 자동차’, 즉 인터넷과 모바일 기기, 더 나아가 운전자와 연결된 자동차를 의미한다.

커넥티드카 서비스 부문 ‘2016 올해의 앱’으로 선정된 바 있는 카루라이브는 차량진단장치(On-Board Diagnostics, OBD)와 스마트폰 센서를 활용해 차량과 관련된 정량적 데이터를 실시간으로 수집한다. 장동일 대표는 “다양한 사용자와 차량 특성에 따라 데이터를 분석해 차량 상태 분석 결과를 제공하며 신뢰성 기반의 운전 습관과 경제 운전 방법을 제시하고 있습니다”라고 말하며 전 세계적으로 가장 많이 사용되는 범용 OBD를 통해 차량 제조사, 차종, 유종, 모델 구분 없이 서비스가 가능한 것은 물론, OBD 구매비용 역시 저렴해 이용자 부담을 최소화했다고 설명했다. 

이외에 카루라이브는 운전 중 실시간으로 차량 데이터를 제공함과 동시에 경제 운전과 안전 운전을 유도하는 주행화면을 제공한다. 고장 진단과 블랙박스 기능도 함께 사용할 수 있으며, 운전을 마치면 주행기록, 주행통계, 운전습관, 차량상태, 랭킹 등을 확인할 수 있다. 

사용자 중심의 서비스와 다양한 혜택
음성인식을 통한 자동차 내부 환경 제어, 모바일 기기를 통한 자동차 성능 관리, 응급상황 시 구조요청 전송, 스마트폰 등을 활용한 음악 청취 및 웹 서핑과 실시간 교통정보 수집, 자동차 외부에 설치된 센서를 통해 충돌 방지 또는 경고를 보내는 등 지금의 자동차는 더 이상 운송수단이 아닌 하나의 유기적 결합체로 재탄생되고 있다. 

이를 가능케 하는 요소 중 하나가 바로 커넥티드카 서비스 분야다. 특히 카루라이브는 사용자 친화적이면서 동시에 기본 사양에서 다양한 혜택을 누릴 수 있다는 것에 높은 평가를 받고 있다. 장동일 대표는 “카루라이브는 운전자가 운전에 집중할 수 있도록 장치 조작을 최소화하는 편의 기능을 직접 설정할 수 있으며, 운전점수 랭킹 및 누적 주행거리, 점수 등에 따른 포인트를 적립할 수 있습니다”라고 말하며 적립된 포인트는 주유권과 상품권 구매 및 각종 운전자 서비스 할인 혜택도 제공받을 수 있다고 조언했다. 

이외에 운전 중에 수집된 자료는 향후 운전자습관 연계보험(Usage Based Insurance, UBI), 업무용 승용차 운행기록부, 연비측정, 중고차 가격산정, 차량정비 분야 등에도 다양하게 활용돼 사용자에게 더 많은 혜택으로 돌아갈 수 있도록 다양한 써드 파티 업체들과의 긴밀한 협력을 맺고 있으며 점차 확대해 나갈 계획이라 덧붙였다.

국내 최고의 기업과 손잡고 본격 시장 공략 나서
최근 ㈜포키비언은 국내 굴지의 IT서비스 기업인 KCC정보통신과의 파트너쉽 체결을 통해 사물인터넷(IoT) 기반의 커넥티드카 서비스 시장에 본격 진출한다. KCC정보통신은 풍부한 시스템 구축 및 운영 노하우를 바탕으로 OBD 장치로부터 실시간으로 차량의 데이터를 수집하고 운전 습관 및 차량상태를 분석하는 플랫폼을 구축하며 신차, 렌터카 및 중고차 판매, 정비‧수리 등 KCC오토그룹 7개 브랜드의 수입차 관련 사업 분야의 경쟁력 향상을 적극 추진할 예정이다. 또한 구축된 플랫폼을 활용해 보험, 장기렌탈·리스, 렌터카·카셰어링, 관용‧학원 차량 관제 서비스, 각종 O2O 서비스 등 차량 관련 서비스 회사와의 연계를 통한 커넥티드카 서비스 시장 진출과 사업 확대에 나선다. 

장동일 대표는 ㈜포키비언과 KCC정보통신 관계사인 KCC오토그룹과의 시너지를 극대화할 수 있는 커넥티드카 서비스 시장 진출을 통해 카루라이브의 서비스와의 연계는 물론 차량 토탈 서비스 개발이 가능한 매우 긍정적인 사례라고 밝혔다. 장 대표는 특히 중고차 거래시장에서 소비자의 판단 기준을 새롭게 제시할 것으로 기대되고 있다고 강조했다.

Suggesting a new milestone for smart cars
‘Connected car’ is rising as the keyword in the car industry today. It connects the driver to the car through internet and mobile devices. User-oriented solution for this reason is very important. CaroO Live, released by POKEVIAN, in this respect, provides user-oriented convenience over the vehicle-centered infortainment, navigation and control and diagnosis services. It has been chosen as the ‘App of The Year 2016’ and the loaded On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) and Smartphone Sensor in CaroO Live gather quantitative date in real time. CEO Chang said “CaroO Live analyzes data according to the driver and the car through which the driver can be able to apply ideal driving habit and method.” OBD is widely used in the world at the moment and it provides information on manufacturer, model and fuel of the car and the price is relatively cheap. CaroO Live also provides the data of the car in real time while driving and the screen induces the driver to a safe and economic drive. It includes the black box functions and the driver can check on mileage, driving habit, car status and his ranking at the end of each ride. 

User-oriented services and additional benefits
A car today can be seen as an organic corporate body considering the functions it can do; voice recognition, performance management on mobile device, transmitting emergency alarm, smartphone-connected for music, radio, web surfing and traffic update and anti-crash alarm. All these functions are closedly related to connected car. Chang said “CaroO Live makes the driver focus on driving by setting up the mode for one’s own preference and the driver can save points on driving habit and mileage with which he/she can change it with a voucher for free gas or goods. The driving habit in particular is used for Usage Based Insurance (UBI), driving lodge, fuel consumption, used car evaluation and car repair services on the benefit of the driver. Chang said that he would expand these services gradually in cooperation with partner companies.

Working together with major companies in Korea
POKEVIAN recently set up a partnership with KCC to pioneer the IoT-based connected car services market. KCC gathers data of cars from OBD in real time to build a car analysis platform in order to strengthen competitiveness of the KCC Auto Group’s 7 imported car-related businesses covering new, used and rent car and repair and maintenance. Also included are insurance, lease, car sharing, car control for school buses or government cars as well as O2O services. Chang said that POKEVIAN’s CaroO Live and the partnership with KCC was a positive case to raise a possibility of developing a total car services and it would suggest a new standard in the used car market. Meanwhile, the POKEVIAN’s knowhow in development of imbedded terminal system software and application would be the trigger for creating a new market in the total car solutions fields in Korea and <Power Korea> wishes Chang and POKEVIAN a successful 2017.
