광주광역시, ‘마이크로의료로봇 산업’ 힘찬 날갯짓 시작
마이크로의료로봇센터가 첨단의료산업도시 광주에 세계 최고의 연구시설을 완공하고 본격적인 운영에 들어간다. 마이크로의료로봇센터는 그간 확보한 세계적인 원천기술 연구 성과를 기반으로, 기업에게 제품상용화를 지원하고 미래형의료로봇인 초소형로봇을 한국의 특화전략산업으로 육성한다는 계획이다. 마이크로의료로봇센터는 이미 세계적으로 마이크로·나노로봇 연구를 주도하고 있다. 세계 최초의 대장내시경로봇 개발(2001년) 및 상용화(2005년)와 캡슐내시경 개발(2003년) 및 상용화(2005년)를 성공했다. 또 세계 최초로 혈관치료용 마이크로로봇(2010년), 세계최초의 박테리아 나노로봇개발(2013년), 면역세포기반 마이크로로봇(2016년)을 개발했다. 이 외에도 수술로봇제어기술, 재활용 케이블로봇, 장기치료용 미니로봇, 세포조작용 로봇, 뇌수술로봇 등 기술을 보유하고 있으며, 상용화를 목표로 연구개발에 주력하고 있다.

단순히 연구개발에 머무는 것이 아니라 원천기술을 기업들에게 기술이전하는 등 이미 상당한 성과를 이뤄 내고 있다. 특히, 전남대가 주도하는 마이크로의료로봇은 세계적으로 기술경쟁력이 높고, 기확보된 기반기술 및 특허로 해외특허장벽 구축이 가능한 고부가 특화전략산업으로 선진국에 특허 및 시장을 선점당한 일반수술로봇과 달리 마이크로의료로봇은 시장성공 가능성이 매우 높은 분야로 각광받고 있다. 광주시 관계자는 “이번 마이크로의료로봇센터를 활용해 2026년까지 글로벌 선도 기업 3개를 육성하고, 30억불의 매출을 올리는 것을 목표로 한다”며 “후속 사업인 미래형의료로봇 시장창출을 위한 신규 사업 국비 확보 등 마이크로의료로봇산업 활성화에 주력하겠다”고 말했다. 박종오 마이크로의료로봇센터장은 “정부는 물론 어려운 여건에서도 광주시가 마이크로의료로봇센터 및 로봇 관련 연구에 적극적인 의지를 가지고 전략적인 투자와 지원을 아끼지 않은 것에 대해 감사하다”며 “지속적인 연구개발 및 기업지원으로 지역의 강소기업을 육성하고 기업유치를 통해 지역경제 활성화 및 차세대 광주시 신성장 동력인 로봇산업 발전에 크게 기여할 것이다”고 지속적인 관심과 성원을 요청했다.

광주·전남·전북, 亞문화전당서 호남권 관광컨퍼런스 개최
호남권 관광 활성화를 위해서는 테마여행으로의 어필과 킬러콘텐츠 개발, 트렌드 변화를 반영한 창조관광기업 육성 등이 필요하다는 지적이 제기됐다. 광주광역시는 전남도, 전북도와 함께 19일 오전 국립아시아문화전당에서 윤장현 광주시장, 송하진 전북도지사, 이낙연 전남도지사, 송기석 국회의원, 관광관련 유관기관 단체장과 전문가 등 300여명이 참석한 가운데, ‘2016 호남권 관광활성화 컨퍼런스’를 열고 호남권 관광 활성화 방안을 모색했다. 이날 컨퍼런스에서 다음소프트 송길영 부사장은 주제발표를 통해 “지역여행보다 테마여행에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있는 상황에서 호남권여행보다 그것을 하나의 테마로 잡아 테마여행으로 어필하는 것이 필요하다“고 주장했다. 주제발표에 이어 황영현 동아대 교수, 장세길 전북연구원 부연구위원, 문창현 광주전남연구원 책임연구원, 유근주 전북도 관광총괄과장, 안기권 전남도 관광과장, 송재식 광주시 관광진흥과장 등이 호남권 관광 활성화 방안을 놓고 열띤 토론을 벌였다. 윤장현 광주광역시장은 개막 환영사에서 “관광은 산업의 의미도 있지만 지역의 역사와 문화를 둘러보는 것이기도 하다”며 “오늘 컨퍼런스가 남도의 손상되지 않는 자연과 문화, 남도인의 삶에 대한 가치를 재조명하고 대한민국의 맛과 멋, 흥을 남도에서부터 꽃피울 수 있는 계기가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

Micro Medical Robot Center Completes Global Level Research Facility
Micro Medical Robot Center in Gwangju City has completed a global level research facility and starts the operation with the center’s global level original technology research results. The center supports commercialization of products and promotes micro medical robots as Korea’s specialized strategic industry. The center already has been leading global level micro and nano robot researches. It developed the world’s first colonofiberscope robot in 2001 (commercialized in 2005) followed by capsule endoscope in 2003 (commercialized in 2005), the world’s first micro robot for blood vessel in 2010, the world’s first bacteria nano robot in 2013 and immunocyte-based micro robot this year. The center also has secured the technologies needed to make surgery control robot, recycle cable robot, internal organ mini robot, cell manipulation robot and brain surgery robot and currently is working on the commercialization through R&D and technology transfer. The micro medical robots led by Chonnam National University especially have global level technology competitiveness and capabilities to make a success in the global healthcare market. 

“We will promote 3 global companies by 2026, an official of the city said, through the center with the goal to create USD 3 billion sales, and for this, we will secure necessary government funds.”

“I’d like to show my gratitude to the central government and Gwangju City, the director of the center Park Jong-oh said, for support and investment. I believe that our sustainable R&D and business support will promote and invite promising companies and contribute to activating regional economy.” 

Gwangju Holds 2016 Honam Tourism Promotion Conference
Gwangju, South Jeolla Province and North Jeolla Province held 2016 Honam Tourism Promotion Conference on 19 last month at Asia Culture Center. 300 public and industry officials including the mayor and the governors attended the conference to find ways to promote regional tourism industry. The vice president of Daumsoft Song Gil-young said in his topic statement “Trend tells that there’s an increasing demand for themed tour so the provinces need to turn the existing regional based marketing strategy to themed tourism.”  The mayor Yun Jang-hyun said in his opening speech “Tourism involves more of history and culture over the industrial conception. This means that the provinces need to make the best use of their historical and cultural resources alongside beautiful landscapes.”
