학업과 업무, 육아, 스트레스 등에 의해 현대인들의 수면시간이 크게 줄어든 요즘, 이제는 수면의 ‘양’보다 ‘질’이 중요해지고 있다. 특히 최근에는 건강과 삶의 질에 대한 사람들의 관심이 높아지면서 수면 건강을 책임지는 ‘침구’의 선택 기준도 더욱 까다로워지고 있다. 이번호 <월간 파워코리아>에서는 온라인 주문 제작 전문 침구 브랜드에서 오프라인 침구 전문 매장으로의 성공적인 도약을 이룬 ‘이플립(IPLIP)’의 임경미 대표를 만나봤다.

최근 발표된 바에 따르면 우리나라 국민들 중 20% 이상이 불면증을 경험한다고 한다. 건강한 신체와 활발한 두뇌활동을 유지하는 데 있어 가장 중요한 요소인 수면이 방해받는다는 것은 곧 생활의 활력을 저하시키는 원인이 되고 있기도 하다. 더 나은 수면을 위해 반드시 신경 써야 하는 아이템이 바로 ‘침구’다. 우리가 잠을 취하는 동안 신체와 맞닿아 있게 되는 침구는 부드러운 촉감으로 편안한 숙면에 도움을 주기도 하며, 자는 동안 배출되는 땀을 흡수해 쾌적한 수면환경을 조성한다. 또한 가볍고 자극이 적은 소재는 피부가 예민한 아이들의 건강을 지키는 데에도 효과적이며, 저마다의 개성에 맞는 패턴과 컬러는 침실 분위기를 기분 좋게 바꿔주는 효과를 주기도 한다. ‘이플립(IPLIP)’은 지난 10여 년 동안 블로그와 온라인 쇼핑몰 등을 통해 활동하며 많은 이들의 사랑을 받아온 주문 제작 전문 침구 브랜드다. 최고급 원단과 심플하면서도 모던한 감성의 트렌디한 디자인, 꼼꼼하게 처리된 마감 등 높은 품질을 인정받으며 사람들의 입소문 속에 지속적인 성장을 일궈왔다. 임경미 대표는 “침구는 편안한 잠을 위해서도, 가족들의 건강과 안락한 분위기 조성을 위해서도 무척이나 중요해요. 저희는 모든 상품을 핸드메이드로 맞춤 제작함으로써 고객 한 분 한분의 니즈에 부합하는 합리적이면서도 퀄리티 높은 제품을 공급하고자 노력하고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다.

“변치 않는 믿음에 보답하는 좋은 제품을 만들겠습니다”
임 대표가 이플립을 창업하게 된 것은 10여 년 전, 블로그에 올렸던 커튼 디자인이 사람들의 높은 관심을 받게 되면서부터였다. 평소에도 인테리어나 패브릭에 관심이 많았던 그는 고심 끝에 다니던 직장을 그만두고 본격적으로 커튼 및 침구류 디자인에 돌입하게 된다. 하지만 이내 위기가 찾아왔다. 전문 가공소를 통해 생산된 제품이 자신의 생각과 너무나도 달랐던 것이다. 자신의 맘에 들지 않으니 고객들의 맘에 들리도 만무했다. 이어지는 반품요청 속에서도 임 대표는 좌절하지 않았다. 오히려 자신이 직접 전문적인 미싱 기술을 배우고 더 잘 알게 된다면, 제품의 완성도를 높일 수 있겠다는 생각에 밤을 새워가며 미싱 연습에 매진했다. 그 결과 그동안 미처 몰랐거나 놓쳤던 부분을 깨닫게 되었고, 이를 제품 생산에 반영함으로써 고객들의 높은 만족도를 이끌어 낼 수 있었다고 한다. 이후 전속 가공소를 마련하는 등 새롭고 다양한 디자인을 반영하는데 힘써온 임경미 대표는 지난 2014년 울산에 이플립 오프라인 매장을 오픈하기에 이른다. 제품을 직접 눈으로 보거나 만져볼 수 없다는 온라인의 한계를 넘고, 고객들과 좀 더 가까이에서 소통 하고팠던 마음을 현실로 이룬 것이다. 

이미 블로그와 인스타그램, 온라인 쇼핑몰을 통해 수많은 팔로워와 단골고객을 확보하고 있던 이플립의 오프라인 매장은 인근 지역민 뿐 아니라 멀리 지방에서 찾아오는 고객들의 발길이 끊이질 않았으며, 높은 인기 속에 가맹 사업으로까지 이어지게 됐다. 이미 광주, 진주, 구미, 청주, 부산에 매장이 오픈되어 운영 중에 있으며, 11월 중 천안점과 이후 부산 해운대 매장도 오픈될 예정이다. 임 대표는 “운영시간이 길지 않고, 예약 상담이 주를 이루다 보니 주로 저처럼 아이를 둔 주부들이 관심을 많이 가지세요. 무엇보다 10년간 온라인 매장을 운영하며 쌓아온 신뢰와 상품에 대한 가치가 높이 평가받고 있는 것 같아요”라고 설명했다. 제품을 구입한 고객들이 다시 찾아와 감사를 표할 때 가장 큰 보람을 느낀다는 임경미 대표. 언제나 고객들의 사랑에 보답할 수 있는 브랜드가 되겠다는 그의 다짐이 언제까지나 변치 않고 이어지길 바란다.

Nothing But Only The Best Beddings
CEO Im put her design of a curtain on her blog 10 years ago. She never knew that her design would captivate many hearts of women. She decided to quit the then current job and threw herself into curtain and bedding design in earnest. The problem was that the design she sent to factory did not seem what it was supposed to look like. The solution was to learn sawing machine herself and Im spent day and night to reach the level of perfection during which she discovered a lot more new elements needed for designing. When Im felt she was ready in technique and in facility, she launched the first IPLIP offline store in Ulsan in 2014. She already had secured her status in the bedding industry around then as her SNS accounts had a considerable number of followers. As a result, the offline store was a great hit. CEO Im currently is running several stores in Gwangju, Jinju, Gumi, Cheongju and Busan and Cheonan and Busan Haeundae will soon to follow. 

“Most owners of the stores are housewives as the opening hour is relatively short and customers also tend to book a time for visit. I’m really grateful that our customers can recognize my 10 years of expertise in the field and quality and design of our beddings”
