A story about ‘light’ for a city’s nights now making toward the world
Lee Jae-yong, president of Star Lighting Co., Ltd.

President Lee Jae-yong of Star Lighting, known for original technology in the field of outdoor scene lighting by developing the ‘bridge-exclusive LED’ attested with safety for the first time in the world, was certified on last June 27 as a new intellectual for technological innovation at ‘2016 Korea’s new intellectual certification ceremony.’ Registering 12 items of patent in his office for Jecheon City Hall, he entered into a story-telling lighting project in 2009 and has carried out over 300 projects successfully at home and abroad.

The world’s first bridge-type safety lighting system certified
with patented technology

The typical tourist town of Busan visited by tens of millions of tourists each year has dozens of famous sight spots, including Haewoondae, Busan harbor and Jagalchi market, but among them, the ‘night view of the Gwangan Big Bridge’ is a unique place. The dancing of gorgeous lights portrayed by the bridge against the dark-blue night sea wears different clothes by season. Diverse stories contained in it about Busan are presenting deep emotions to visitors as well as Busan citizens. The hero who has made the present of the Gwangan Big Bridge is the president Lee Jae-yong of Star Lighting.

After he was selected through subscription of specialized Gwangan Big Bridge project in 2009, he made public the new picture of the bridge as the landmark for Busan in December 6, 2013 after 4 years or so in the warmest response from citizens. President Lee said, “In global cities such as New York, Paris and Hong Kong, the night view in brilliant embroidery on darkness is as much loved by people as the bright busy sight of day. Starting with the Gwangan Big Bridge which is due to shine on the nights of this beautiful city Busan, I simply hope that Busan becomes the best lighting city in Korea, in Asia, and then, in the world.”

Star Lighting, which has boasted of original design and construction with already over 20 patents and practical new devices, is dreaming about a higher takeoff by responding to foreign markets such as the US and China after the Gwangan Big Bridge project. Such confidence is underpinned by the technology proven through patents and, in particular, their pride in ‘safety.’ President Lee explained, “In case of the general lighting employing the method of attaching it to the side of bridge structure, it can damage the structure, and if lights fall off by receiving damage, it may become a risk factor. However, our developed bridge lighting system in one piece of cable can be installed in a roundly wrapping way without giving damage to the structure. We completely intercepted any dangers from the fall of lights, etc. by reducing the wind pressure received by the rope.” Besides, while lights attached to the side of structure lose the effect by over 70% of the light becoming unnecessarily distracted, Star Lighting products can have light shine in the exact direction toward only rope and its strength is to make the maximum effect with the minimum electricity. Besides, being connected to the speaker that can be controlled on land, it can be used for diverse events such as confession of love, proposal, etc. with pictures and lighting.  Beyond the lighting for simple seeing and enjoying, it has embodied the lighting for the citizens’ direct participation and communication, and this is one of the factors that has caused more love from them.

Finished with preparations to make inroads overseas
as the No. 1 lighting company

Currently, Star Lighting is preparing for earnest overseas expansion. Last year the company obtained international patents from the US and China for the ‘bridge lighting system’ and ‘all-in-one cable lighting’ and marketing has begun on the subject of the US Golden Gate and the bridge for China’s local government. While being tested on the technology of Star Lighting in the world through the Golden Gate, a landmark for the US, the company is intended to inscribe the name of Star Lighting on more places through cooperation with China’s local governments which are making developments every place in the region based on the country’s high economic growth and building a number of bridges. President Lee Jae-yong clarified, “In addition to the original meaning of making dark places bright, lighting has been assuming new roles for beauty, convenience and dignity. We are going to change the paradigm of Korea’s lighting industry based on constant efforts for advanced technology, high quality, rich professionals and technological innovation. Our aim is to become the enterprise representing Korea and competing with Asia and the world, not just the best lighting enterprise of our country.”

It is in this relation that the company has signed a technological agreement with Alain Guilhot, a great master at urban sight lighting, Alain Guilhot carried out 400 lighting works around the world for sight lighting of the Eiffel Tower (Paris, France), Twin Building (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), etc., undertook the position of general director for Light Festival Arts of 2009 Gwangju World Light Expo and is acting as a French promotional ambassador for light. According to president Lee, he became able to establish the lighting design strategy and future direction of technical research in more detail through the meeting with Alain Guilhot. He said, “Lighting a city is like putting clothes on a person. Light is an element by which to find and develop a city’s potential and it is needed to make the city’s second image through a systematic plan for nighttime scenery.’

People’s Increasing interest in urban sight is broadening the span of Star Lighting’s activity area. Star Lighting and its president Lee Jae-yong are dreaming about a higher takeoff based on the only patented technology of the world. It is worth paying attention to their future movements who are finding a new world of light in the darkness which takes up a third of one day.
