KOTRA holds 2016 Design & Export Consulting for Japanese Market
KOTRA, in cooperation with the Korean Consulate General in Fukuoka, and Government 3.0, held 2016 Design & Export Consulting for Japanese Market at Okura Hotel, Fukuoka, Japan on 7 last month. The consulting supports Korean SMEs to enter Japanese market more effectively by giving advice on Japanese’s preference in product design. This is because many novice Korean SMEs have lacked in understanding the foreign market and their preference in design even after they found buyers from Japan. The consultants emphasized on safety and hygiene certificates which should be clearly marked on each package of the product and packages should also be neat and small considering the high number of single household in Japan. Nailace, for example, started to export one of its products ‘Nail Buffer’ to Japan from 2007 with the help of KOTRA Fukuoka and is making more than USD 200,000 yearly sales. The consulting this year invited Japanese design firm Trythink and marketing consulting firm Ayakura to give advice on design, distribution channel, target consumer and rival companies. KOTRA Fukuoka Head Yu In-hong said “Fukuoka prefecture is opener than other prefectures in Japan to foreign companies. There’s even a saying that “If a foreign company made a success in Fukuoka it will do the same in Tokyo”. We hope that the consulting this year will help more Korean SMEs to successfully enter Japanese market.”

KOTRA signs MOUs with Russian businesses 
KOTRA signed MOUs with Russia Far East Development Center and Technology Development Federation at Vladivostok on 2-3 September. The MOUs are expected to encourage Korean companies to enter Russian market and to strengthen technology cooperation between the two countries. The MOUs were signed on the occasion of Russian President’s attendance at Eastern Economic Forum. Russia Far East Development Center operates and manages TOR and Free Port (Vladivostok) and other various Far East development projects. The contents of the MOUs include 1) information exchange on foreign trade and investment 2) sharing information on major projects of the Far East 3) increasing the number of seminars and forums to invite more investments. KOTRA CEO Kim Jae-hong said “With the EU’s continuous economic sanctions, Russia lays more emphasis on trade, investment and exchange with Korea, Japan and China. The MOUs will build a cooperation foundation between Korean and Russia and we will actively encourage Korean companies to enter Russian market through investment and technology cooperation.”
