Park encourages the Olympic team
President Park invited the Olympic team to the Blue House on 25 August and encouraged their effort. Park said “I believe that many people took courage and confidence from the fighting spirit you had shown in the Olympic. The turn-around matches of Jin Jong-oh and Park Sang-young, Park In-bee’s top level winning shots, Yoon Jin-hee’s exertion despite the fact she had to care her own child, Kim Hyun-woo who overcame injuries and doubtful judgment and especially the archery team who swept the gold medals in all categories have become the symbols of hope and courage for many Korean people.” Park also gave credits to women handball and hockey teams, men football team, Son Yeon-jae, Lee dae-hoon, who held the winner’s hand, and all other teams who did their very best. Park also mentioned that Yoo Seong-min becoming a member of IOC Athletes’ Commission is a pride of Korea. Park hoped that the passion of the Olympic team would continue in the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics and added that the government was working hard in preparation to make it the best ever winter Olympics in history. She then gave out each member of the team a Rio Olympics fencing helmet and foil as gift.
Park invites local governors to luncheon
President Park held a luncheon with local governors on 17 August. It was the second time since last February and Park said that the support of local governments were a must for Korea to go through the current global economic downturn. Park continued “Whether it is the central government or the local’s, we have the same purpose: to serve the people and to introduce and implement better policies for regional and national development. The central government will improve the regulation that discourages new growth industries and is working on introducing regulation free zones at the moment. I hope that the local governments will use the advantages of their own cultural resources and local industries to the full to boost up the regional economy. I also ask you to actively use Creative Economy Innovation Center and k-cel.” Park added that welfare, childcare and measures for low birthrate need to be solved together through close cooperation between the central and the local governments.
