Sancheong dried persimmon has more merchantable quality than other region’s thanks to the county’s clean are and daily temperature difference. It used to be served on the royal table and the Queen Elizabeth II recently sent a thank-you letter on receiving Sancheong dried persimmon through her personal cook. All ingredients for Sancheong dried persimmon come from gojongsi (kind of persimmon) and dansungsi. Unlike most other persimmons usually dried on a dry field and packed to be released on the market, Sancheong’s goes through the second drying on wicker trays to give a complete drying. Ha Jae-yong, Chairman of Sancheong Dried Persimmon Association, who started his service from 2010, says “Sancheong dried persimmon is famous for the complete drying. We will keep upgrading the quality of the persimmon through modern facilities and cooperative sorting.” Sancheong Dried Persimmon Association was established in 2006 by 1,200 farmhouses of Sicheon-myeon, Samjang-myeon, Danseong-myeon and Geumseo-myeon and creates yearly 40 billion won sales. “Sancheong dried persimmon contains more nutrients than ripe persimmon and sweet persimmon. It is rich in vitamins, natural sugar, texture and fiber. It strengthesn capillary and are effective for bronchitis and lowering cholesterol level. The vitamin C in Sancheong dried persimmon is 10 times more than apple and 2 times more than tangerine. It is good as a hangover cure when you drink it after boiling 3 dried persimmons in water. The tannin in the dried persimmon, that makes astringent taste, also is goof for preventing diarrhea and high blood pressure. Sancheong dried persimmon contains 50 brix of sugar and carotin, the substance that can help strengthen immunity. The white powder on the dried persimmon is glucose and fruit sugar and they are good for bronchial tubes and lung.” Sancheong dried persimmon won 7 prizes at the Korea Master Brand Awards 2016 in the local specialty category including consumer ‘top of mind’, ‘awareness’ and ‘differentiation’. Sancheong dried persimmon has been approved for its quality by the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service and obtained QC mark on recommendation of South Gyeongsang Province. It also has been registered to the origin of produce as the third local agricultural products this year.

Winning 2016 Korea Festival Contents Awards 
The county held the 9th Jirisan Sancheong Dried Persimmon Festival on 9-10 January this year. 40,000 people were estimated to visit the county during the festival and created 200 million won sales from dried persimmon. The programs of the festival included persimmon show, cooking contest, persimmon leaf tea foot bathing, sending balloons away, rice-cake mallet, rice-cake sharing, singing contest and Korean music/dance/martial art performances. “It is thanks to all of our residents and public and industry officials that we successfully held the festival. We will keep working closely together to increase incomes of our farmers” adding that “The distribution of Sancheong persimmon is done by 20% purchase from NH (NongHyup), 30% auction and 50% individual sales. The system is rather less advanced but we will improve the system through a new distribution system and fair election.”
