MOSF, 350,000 job seekers got a job in the service sector 
The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said that there has been a significant increase in number of jobs in the service sector and 350,000 job seekers got a job in the service industry by June this year. Based on a four-week unemployment rate research, 18,000 (10.3%) among them are aged 15 to 29 which is 0.1% increase on last year and it recorded the second highest rate since the first research took place in June 1999 (11.3%). South Gyeongsang Province in particular saw 3.9% unemployment rate, 1.0% increase on last year, recording the biggest increase nationwide despite restructuring in the shipbuilding industry in the region. Overall employees increased to 26 million and 559,000 which is 1.4% increase (354,000) on last year. The number shows that March this year saw around 300,000 more employees which dropped to around 200,000 between April and May and recovered to around 300,000 again in June. The ministry found the reason for decrease from the outbreak of MERS. Overall employment rate is 61.2%, a 0.3% increase on last year, and the aged 15 to 64 show 66.5% (0.5% increase) and the aged 15 to 29 a 1.7% increase thanks to 131,000 more employees (1.7% increase) aged in their 20s. “Although the service sector sees an increase in number of employees, the slump in the manufacturing industry discourages overall employment rate. So we need to bring up effective measures through supplementary budget and its rapid implementation” says the ministry. 

MOSF prepares for Brexit
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Yoo Il-ho said that we needed to thoroughly prepare for the aftermath of Brexit. Yoo said in an economic ministerial meeting held at the Central Government Complex Seoul “Although the market is somewhat recovered from the impact of Brexit, it is still not stable enough and we are currently working on securing substantial amount foreign exchange reserve while improving the system to secure necessary finance. It is important for international society to find the cause of Brexit and bring up effective measures and Korea also will work together through G20 and ASEAN” said Yoo, adding “President Park’s visit to the Middle East and Africa is part of this effort and it will contribute to raising the presence of Korean companies in the global market. FTA will also take a great part to increase export competitiveness of Korean products.”
