Establishing the foundation for the age of AR
"A breakthrough comes from AR and VR distance learning“
Lee Ki-ho, Design Professor of Baekseok Arts University, Head of Teaching and Learning Institute, Director of Interex Design Lab

Making the wold's first AR stamp, suggesting ideas for AR tourism
Pokémon GO is creating a global sensation at the moment. It is made by using AR (Augmented Reality) which transmits virtual images onto screen. Unlike VR (Virtual Reality), the game does not require a head gear and, for this reason, AR in Pokémon GO symbolizes the advancement of LTE mobile contents. The similar game actually was tried by a company in the name 'Catch Catch' before in Korea but lack of technologies in transmission and user recognition brought a failure. Baekseok Arts University's design prof. Lee Ki-ho's effort in commercializing AR, in this respect, is attracting a great attention at the moment. Lee was one who introduced the world's first AR stamp at Yeosu Expo 2012 in cooperation with Korea Post. He also is the one who planed a AR game content with which people can walk around to find historic sites of Gyeongju. Lee saw a great potential long time ago and has applied media art and engineering to AR. Lee grew up with movies, music and photography. He majored in ceramic arts at Hongik University and studied filming and editing at Long Island University, US. He then worked as a video artist and a post-production supervisor before landed in the current visual design. He also is a member of The Seoul Arts Center Business Advisory Committee and started to teach students VR and AR at Baekseok Arts University from 2009.

Pioneering the age of E-learning with engineering and imaging technology
Lee points out that Korea's convergence projects are mainly focused on technology on technology and says "It is a must that engineering-based VR technology is converged with graphics and contents in order to realize user-friendliness and to promote the industry. I suggest 'contents designers' as an ideal tools to make it happen and my programs and contents are also centered on this." Lee's pupils, for this reason, have to go through an intensive 2 year course for their graduate works that meet the requirements of Lee. Lee's plan to introduce 'E-learning' also sees to walk in accordance with the government's new policy of using electronic textbooks from 2018. "The effectiveness of E-learning will come from AR in the curriculum because students cannot practice the theory they learned in distance learning without the roles of AR and VR" explains Lee. It is true that AR today does not require various gadgets but only a smart phone. Lee continues "Teleportation in the movie 'Star Trek' and eye-fi in 'Satorare' or Microsoft's Hololens will soon be realized with the help of AR." And Lee is working on connecting all of these innovative technologies and contents to big data in order to create and spread Korean contents to the world.
