20 years of knowhow in development of healthy functional food

Wellbeing has become a trend today. People try to lead a healthy life through healthy diet and habit. In this respect, CEO Moon of Moonjiyoon Food Research Center suggests a way to fulfill the wants by presenting wellbeing bread. It is true that more and more Korean people tend to eat bread instead of rice nowadays. Moon explains “It is already reported that many of spicy, salty, oily and high calorie Korean foods can cause diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity. Korea also is in high rank in adult diseases according to OECD reports. So I wanted to do something to bring up healthier food and that’s why I opened the center.” Moon finished a master course in Food & Nutrition at Pusan National University and a PhD in Food Biotechnology at Kyungsung University. She worked for Lotte Samgang (predecessor of Lotte Food) and engaged in development of confectioneries and breads. During this period, she actively carried out research on food and lifestyle diseases. She also worked as an adjunct and visiting professor and has exerted much effort in raising public awareness about 100% organic food, low calorie diet and eco-friendly food. 

The wellbeing breads that captivates taste buds of people
Moon paid attention to the stimulative agents of palm cactus’s fruit growing in Jeju Island for developing diabetes bread. The fruit has been widely used in folk and oriental medicine for anti-inflammation, pain and fever and it is rich in fiber and minerals. The effect for anti-ulcer, antioxidative activity and anti-diabetes has also been reported and numerous researchers are currently working on developing related products. CEO Moon developed technology that can reduce the viscosity of the fruit and found a method for making the dough of anit-diabetes breads by using low sodium, oligosaccharide and low fat alongside the technology. As a result, Moon’s palm cactus fiber breads and biscuits won special prize and bronze prize respectively at 2014 International Idea & Invention Fair Germany, sliver prize and bronze prize at 2014 Seoul International Invention Fair, and gold medal in the health & beauty category at Pittsburgh International Invention Fair, US. The products also obtained organically processed food certificate from Korea, Europe and the US last March. The Moon’s patented ‘White Kimch Burger’, on the other hand, is designed to prevent and treat Korean’s obesity. The food is popular among the people who are in seeking for wellbeing food. CEO Moon also participated in Tokyo Gift Show and Bejing International Organic Food Industry Fair as part of pioneering overseas market. When asked about her goal, she said “I want to grow the center as a company that makes contributions to the society and the nation. Our motto is ‘Wellbeing, Eco-friendliness, Community Service’. We donated our wellbeing food to Yundongju Literary and Art Festival last October and make regular donations to various welfare organizations for disabled. It is our job and will to spread healthy food to the world citizens.”
