대한민국 코칭교육의 현장실천가, 암울한 시대에 따뜻한 격려의 빛이 되다

저성장이 계속되고 미래가 불투명해지면서 목표와 방향성을 잃어버리고 방황하는 사람들이 늘어나고 있다. 특히 대한민국의 성장 동력이 되어야할 청년들은 극심한 취업난에 시달리며 결혼과 연애, 출산을 포기한 ‘삼포세대’로 전락하고 있다. 이러한 가운데 국내 최정상급 코칭전문가인 이경호 교수의 “무엇보다 중요한 것은 자신의 가능성을 믿고, 꿈과 비전을 찾아 행복한 인생을 설계하고 실행하는 것”이라는 조언은 우리에게 많은 시사점을 던져준다.

자신을 일깨우는 코칭의 중요성
우리나라에 코칭이 도입되기 시작하던 2000년대 초반, 이경호 교수는 메이저 코칭펌인 CMOE社의 라이프코치 F/T로 활동을 시작하여 전문코치로서의 풍부한 현장 경험을 쌓아왔다. 국제코치연맹과 한국코치협회의 자격인증을 획득한 그는 소속직장의 구성원 코칭은 물론 다양한 산업현장에서 코칭을 희망하는 고객과 직원들을 대상으로 비즈니스코칭과 라이프코칭을 실시해왔으며, 현장의 생생한 경험을 바탕으로 경성대학교 경영학부 교수로 임용된 이후 학생들의 역량강화를 위한 코칭과목의 개설운영과 함께 다양한 코칭교육과 기업 CEO 및 임원, 공기업 및 각종 단체에 코칭 특강을 펼치고 있다. 
이 교수는 “코칭이란 사람과 조직의 가치를 높임으로써 행복한 삶을 이루고, 높은 성과를 달성할 수 있도록 변화시키는 것을 말합니다. 이 같은 코칭은 예전에도 이뤄져왔지만, 요즘은 어디에서나 쉽게 들을 수 있을 정도로 활성화되었습니다. 그만큼 이 시대가 코칭을 필요로 하고 있는 것이죠”라고 설명했다. 그는 현대사회를 살아가고 있는 많은 사람들이 저마다의 고민과 문제로 인해 어려움을 겪고 있다고 말했다. 직장생활과 가정생활, 개인의 재무문제와 건강문제부터 인간관계와 소통의 문제에 이르기까지 전문성을 가진 사람들의 도움이 요청되고 있다는 것이다. 이 교수는 “사람은 누구나 무한한 가능성과 잠재력을 가진 존재입니다. 자신의  부족한 면을 채우기 위한 노력도 필요하지만, 자신이 가진 무한한 가능성을 발견하고 그 가능성을 현실의 삶에서 구현해 나가는 것이 무엇보다 중요합니다. 혼자서는 어려울 수 있지만  전문코치와 함께 한다면 가능하다고 봅니다. 많은 사람들이 코칭을 통하여 삶의 변혁과정을 거쳐 행복한 삶을 펼쳐하고 있다는 것이 엄연한 사실입니다“라고 말했다

무한한 가능성 가진 젊은 세대를 응원하다
열정적인 강의와 학부 학생들의 취업경쟁력 강화를 위한 다양한 산학협력 활동에도 주력하고 있는 이경호 교수는 이에 그치지 않고 ‘코칭의 발전’을 위한 공부와 연구에 끊임없이 힘을 쏟고 있다. 그는 지난 2014년, 「전문코치의 성장경험에 대한 내러티브 탐구」라는 주제 논문으로 뇌교육학 박사학위를 수여받기도 했다. 이 교수는 “이 연구로 코치는 공부와 현장경험을 통해 신념, 인식틀, 시각변화 등 새로운 탄생과정을 거쳐야 존재감 있는 전문코치로 변모할 수 있다는 사실을 검증할 수 있었습니다”라고 설명했다. 이론에만 통달하기 보다는 다양한 현장에서 상대방의 성장을 이끌어주는 경험을 쌓는 것이 코치 스스로에 대한 ‘자기교육’으로 이어지며 전문코치로의 직업적 성장과 발전을 돕는다는 것이다. 그는 “코칭의 질과 수준을 결정짓는 핵심역량은 단순한 지식이 아니라 삶의 경험을 통해 체화된 ‘체험지혜’ 입니다”라고 강조했다. 

한국코치협회 부산경남지부장의 탁월한 역할수행
이경호 교수는 이러한 철학을 다양한 사회봉사활동으로 실천하고 있다. 다양한 사람들을 대상으로 지식기부활동을 펼치고 있으며, 특히 2015년부터 한국코치협회 부산경남지부장으로 임명되어 부산경남지역의 코칭문화 확산에 헌신적인 봉사와 열정을 쏟고 있다. 지난 5월에는 일본 동경에서 개최한 제1회 한일코치컨퍼런스에 참여해 일본의 정상급 코치들과 함께  코칭문화 확산과 행복한 사회를 만들기 위한 코치로서의 역할을 강조하기도 했다. 그는 “최근 많은 젊은이들이 자신이 처한 현재의 상황만으로 스스로의 능력과 가능성을 한계 짓거나, 잘못된 신념체계에서 벗어나지 못하고 있습니다. 이러한 이들에게 자신이 진정 소중한 존재이며, 무한한 미래의 가능성을 가지고 있다는 점을 일깨워주는 것이 저의 역할이라 생각하고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다. 사회의 모든 구성원들과 함께하며 더불어 행복한 세상을 만들어가겠다는 이경호 교수의 열정에 응원의 박수를 보낸다.

As the low growth has been continued for a long time the future of many people seems to be unclear and lose the direction. Especially, young people who are supposed to be a driving force of Korea are suffering from an extreme terrible jobless situation and they are regarded as a generation of giving up three things such as wedding, relationship, and giving a birth. In the middle of this bad condition Professor Lee Kyung-Ho who is a national class coaching expert advises that most of all, the most important thing is we trust ourselves and look for dream and vision and then design and realize that. 

Importance of coaching that wakes up oneself 
In the early 2000 when the coaching system brought up seriously, Professor Lee Kyung-Ho started his career as a life coach F/T of CMOE Company, which was a major coaching firm and has experienced a lot on the spot. He got certificates from the International Coach Association and the Korea Coach Association. Currently he has been doing life and business coaching clients and employees who want to have from various work fields. He is also Professor Lee Kyung-Ho of administration department of Kyungsung University and since then he is opening a coaching class for students to enforce and doing a special coaching in variety for CEOs, directors, public companies and many communities. 

Professor Lee explained, “Coaching is changing in order to make a happy life and a high success by raising the value of other people and work place. Like that coaching was done before but nowadays it is normal to be told everywhere. It means that this time needs coaching.” 

He said most people in this time are going though their own worries and problems. Professor Lee said “Humans have immense possibility and potential power. They need to try to fill up with something not enough but it is more important to discover infinite possibility and realize the possibility in real life. It could be difficult alone but it would be possible with a professional coach. The fact is that people are changing and living happily out of help by experts.”

Cheering young people having infinite possibilities 
Professor Lee Kyung-Ho trying to do a passionate lecture, reinforcement of students for job competitiveness by a school and company activity is focusing on a study and research for the improvement of coaching constantly. Last 2014, he used to get a doctorial degree of brain education with a paper 「Narrative Research about growth experience by professional coach」. It means having an experience from various places is better than figuring out only theory. That would help for professional coach for themselves as it helps development and growth. He emphasized “The core ability determining the quality and level of coaching is not only just knowledge but also the wise of experience gotten by life experience”. 

Amazing role performance
as Korea Coach Association in Busan-Gyeongnam office 
Professor Lee Kyung-Ho is doing the social volunteering because of his philosophy. He is sharing his talent for many various people and in particular he has been appointed as a head of Busan-Gyeongnam office of Korea Coach Association. Since then he is more working passionately and contributing volunteering. Last May, he used to emphasize the role of coach to make a happy society and coaching spread with famous Japanese coaches at the first Korea-Japan Coach Conference. He said “Recently, the majority of young people make the limit of their own ability and possibility with a current situation or they are stuck in a wrong mindset. For them, my duty is to wake them up what they have and how precious they are and they have infinite future energy as well”. From him it deserves for Professor Lee Kyung-Ho to would like to make a happy world passionately to be cherished.
