KOTRA attracts global projects
KOTRA held ‘Global Project Plaza 2016’ in cooperation with related government and private organizations on 24-25 May at Intercontinental Hotel COEX Seoul. 100 project ordering agencies from 42 countries worth USD 182.5B participated in the event and 140 Korean companies provided trade consulting. The Plaza marked 10th anniversary this year and attracted double the participants and introduced 120 promising business projects including Thailand’s MRT Pink Line Project worth KRW 1.83 trillion (notice of tender in June) and Bangladesh’s Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar Railway Project worth KRW 2.8 trillion. Apart from the latter railway project, the National Railroad Administration of Bangladesh previously signed a contract with the Korea Rail Network Authority and Dohwa Engineering Consortium for Acrak-Samrak railway construction and supervision. Meanwhile, Korail and Egyptian National Railroad Administration signed a MOU to strengthen cooperation in railway projects on 24 May. Head of KOTRA Strategic Marketing Department Kim Du-young said “National projects usually are high value added export business involving equipment, materials and technologies. We will keep find promising national level overseas projects and draw them into contract with Korean companies.”

KOTRA holds Korea Premium Goods Show in Iran
KOTRA and the Ministry of Trade Industry and Energy held ‘2016 Tehran Korea Premium Goods Show’ for 3 days from 23 May. The show was a large scale follow-up event of Park’s recent visit to Iran early May and it aimed to strengthen economic cooperation and to support Korean companies to enter Iranian market as Iranian government showed a great interest in trading with Korea. Sorena Sattari, Iranian Vice-President for Science, said in his opening speech “Iranian government is welcoming Korea’s investment of its global level R&D and cutting edge technologies in Iran and we boldly suggest mutual cooperation to pioneer global market.” The show attracted 20 companies in electricity materials, 17 in machinery, 8 in steel, 15 in parts and materials, 12 in car parts and total of 500 Iranian buyers received business consulting from 81 Korean companies. Especially, the Korean aluminum molding company ‘Sform’, which Indian Prime Minister Modi showed a great interest at Make In India last February, attracted attention one more time at the show. Another Korean company Bandohoist also took the center stage at the show. KOTRA CEO Kim Jae-hong said “The show is the first ever business show held by a foreign government in Iran since the lifting of economic sanctions. We collaborated three elements ‘trade, investment and K-Wave’ for the show in order to support Korean companies to enter Iranian market.”
