Kang Gi-hong, president of Hyosung Food Farming Association
Sancheong’s grains brown rice bread in place as a new wellbeing trend
New rice and five cereals produced in Sancheong-gun’s pure natural environment aims toward the global market

The Five Cereals refers to five kinds of grains in the highest weight of each country – rice, barley, foxtail millet, beans and millet – and Chinese thinking of the five elements says that these five kinds eaten together contribute to one’s long life and health. This diet of eating these five mixed cereals instead of pure rice is gradually increasing and Hyosung Food Farming Association (www.ogog.co.kr), located in Sancheong, Gyeongnam, has distinguished itself in the nation by hitting ‘Sancheong’s Grain Brown Rice Bread’ produced with the material of this rice and five cereals.

President Kang Gi-hong showed his confidence in Grain Brown Rice bread made of the very nature of Sancheong by saying, “Using 100% domestic new rice and five cereals, we developed and supplied the material from new crops of the year, which has become a pure domestic wellbeing product. Complementing the shortcomings of the bread made of pure rice and adding functionality, Sancheong Grain Brown Rice bread upgraded in taste and nutrition will spread to the world over the national border through completing the factory, supplementing the system and building database. This is going to open the path for benefiting not only our brand but the home for the brand as Sancheong-gun and county people, which will build up as a cornerstone for the community and economic development.”

Delivery room for development of Sancheong-gun
President Kang Gi-hong from Sancheong, Gyeongnam, graduated school from Busan and a veteran food businessman who has engaged in food-related business for over 20 years. His food principle is simple: to use the best material assuming that it is the thing I am going to eat myself. This is the most fundamental and basic idea but a principle hard to stick to. He emphasized that since no one would put low-quality material or harmful things in what he has to eat, it is natural that the best material should be used to adhere to the taste of product and health for eaters.

“”I became associated with developing rice bread for president Kim Soo-min, Ulsan, and came into the business of bread. However, even the rice bread suffers in taste when using old grain and weakens other nutrients or functionality when using only rice. Sancheong grain brown rice bread is the product developed by supplementing these shortcomings because it used new rice and five cereals to add functionality such as taste and nutrition. Ingredients put in Sancheong Grain Brown Rice bread are all domestically-grown new rice and grains, all of which are produced in Gyeongnam, We are proud to say that Grain Brown Rice bread produced this way in Sancheong with fine water and air is prominent in taste, nutrition and healthfulness with synergy effect."

It is widely known that the five cereals work on obesity and geriatric diseases. The Brown Rice bread is consistently welcomed by customers who have tasted it once because it is characteristically eupeptic and savory. Though looking like ordinary bread, Sancheong Grain Brown Rice bread is stickier than wheat flour and its chewy texture is agreeable to the palate. It is born by adding every nutrient including safflower, rice brain, barley brain, etc. to rice and the five cereals’ own as well as silky taste from patented technology, overcoming the drawback that most food with high content of dietary fiber is hard to digest. Grain Brown Rice bread developed also by adding brown rice is in the limelight in dietary life for preventing aging and hardening of the arteries and received admiration from gourmets when exhibited at ‘Sancheong World’s Traditional Medicine Expo’ held in 2013.

Besides, being built up into a company of 10 franchises in Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk for Grain Brown Rice bread, Hyosung Food Farming Association is planning to export the free mix of domestic Grain Brown Rice bread to advanced countries to facilitate consumption and boost farmers’ income.  Further, with a vision to national development through creating jobs for local residents with brand manpower for local development, President Kang Gi-hong is aiming to build up as a global enterprise by increasing the quality of domestic food and open a new path for a model enterprise, while taking the lead in promoting Korean-style food culture.

Settles as a brand of the community using the special products and farm produce of Sancheong-gun

While constantly working to develop upgraded products by constructing the future system and database in the context of export projects, Hyosung Food Farming Association is lately developing functional bread using medicinal herbs produced in Sancheong-gun. In order to build up its brand as a local brand in partnership using special products and farm produce of Sancheong-gun. a wellknown home for medical plants, the association is executing R&D with Sancheong-gun on the bread using safflower seeds which has proven components good for bones.

President Kang said, “Until building up into the representative brand of Sancheong, we have been assisted by the county authority and farmers so we will build up into an enterprise to increase the income of Sancheong county people by developing products capable of win-win strategy and improve domestic brand power by exporting them at home and abroad. We will contribute to the development of the county by enlarging the business in an effort to contribute to the crops of the county people, 60% of whom are engaged in rice growing.”
Hyosung Food Farming Association, which has passed through US FDA with testing on the enterprise ahead at the beginning of next year, is taking the lead in promoting Sancheong with experience event for making the Grain Brown Rice bread by participating in the Healing Academy opened by the county office. President Kang and the association are meeting the first anniversary of establishing the factory of safflower brown rice powder, a project under the Agriculture Ministry for fostering local industry, on June 9. They signed a 6 billion-won investment agreement for constructing the production complex for Oriental medicine anti-aging by 2019, which is currently under way. It is intended to develop healthier and more beneficial products with advance through R&D and continued monitoring under this project for higher image of Sancheong-gun, a home for Oriental medicine, and local development.

“During this June, our products are delivered to schools in Gyeongnam for feeding. I believe it will turn out to be good products because Sancheong-gun with fine water and air established the factory and will make the products from the raw. Feeling pride in distributing this good bread to infants and youths I will make efforts to supply it to the army, too.” said President Kang. As a typical brand for Sancheong, President Kang Gi-hong and Hyosung Food Farming Association are taking an active part in the development of the county  for national economy and capitalizing on every possibility of Sancheong to become a leading actor in informing the world about Sancheong.
