ºÎ»ê-±èÇØ°æÀüö ÁÖ½Äȸ»ç´Â ºÎ»ê°ú ±èÇؽùÎÀ» À§ÇÑ °øÀͽü³ÀÎ µµ½Ãöµµ¸¦ ¿î¿µÇÏ´Â ±â¾÷À¸·Î¼­ Àú´Â ´ÙÀ½ ³× °¡Áö¸¦ Çٽɰ¡Ä¡·Î »ï°í ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. ±× ù°´Â “°í°´ÁöÇâ”ÀÔ´Ï´Ù. 1. What is your management philosophy?

We have four core values of running the corporation. Firstly, it is ‘passenger-centered services’. There is no us without passengers and it is our job to reflect the needs and wants of them into our management policies. Secondly, it is ‘safety first’. I don’t actually need to mention how important safety is regardless the fields and industries. I’m proud to say that since its opening of the transit, there hasn’t been a single accident thanks to our safest transit system in Korea. Not being complacent with this, we carry out meticulous checkup on a regular basis. Thirdly, it is ‘professionalism’. As a manless transit, professionalism of our staff is a must. We constantly improve capabilities of our staff and try to introduce more innovative maintenance systems. And actually, our effort was well received from the fact that numerous related institutions and organizations have had 250 times of tours of our excellent systems. Lastly, it is ‘open communication’. Communication and cooperation are the two keywords for running a corporation. We support in-house club activities, the in-house newspaper and other various colleague-friendly activities to maximize work efficiency and customer services.

2. How much does the transit contribute to regional transport and economy?
The transit started as a pilot project in 1992 to solve the traffic congestion between the west part of Busan and Gimhae. It was fully opened on 17 September 2011. It is 23km long and runs 394 times a day through 21 stations including Gimhae Airport and Gimhae City. The initial number of daily passengers was about 30,000 but it has increased to 53,000 (77% increase rate). We are confident to say that it has grown to be the most beloved transport in name and reality around area. As for the economic side, it significantly reduced transport and living costs while increasing convenience, urban development effect and real estate market in the region which are worth KRW tens of billions according to Inje University Southeast Development Research Center. 

3. How do you attract more passengers? 
We are using various facilities and resources in and around the transit and also promoting public recognition. We introduced themed train or compartments such as Cocomong and Turning Mecard or a package like ‘Travel Gimhae with Light Rail’. We also make handbooks or e-book guides and work together in cooperation with Gimhae Cultural Foundation or various regional cultural festivals. In addition, we are actively doing community services to help people in need and to raise images of the company.

4. What are the pending issues and solutions?
Busan-Gimhae Light Rail Transit is base infrastructure and therefore is in the category of public service. In other words, it needs a considerable amount of financial support due to its low profitability. The number of passengers using the transit currently is not satisfying the operating cost and therefore we are being financially supported by local governments at the moment. As part of effort to improve the situation, we are currently working on restructure of management system on mutual agreement with shareholders. In addition, we introduced ‘private investment system’.
