Suwon City holds 2016 Policy Strategy Briefing
Suwon City held 2016 Policy Strategy Briefing on 8th and 9th March at the city hall. 100 people including Mayor Yeom Tae-young and city officials and industry specialists attended the briefing. The First Deputy Mayor Kim Dong-geun introduced three main subjects of the briefing; 'How to draw citizens' participation?', 'How to put King Jeongjo's philosophy into practice?' and 'What is effective marketing strategy?' in relation with' Visit Year 2016 Suwon Hwanseong'. Advisor Kim Jeong-gu said "The opening ceremony of Visit Year 2016 Suwon Hwaseong was a great success thanks to our effective marketing strategy targeting young people through SNS."

Another advisor Bae Jeong-wan said "It is necessary for us to build knowledge on the history of the city as well as out capability to sell cultural products to foreigners in and out of Korea. It might also be effective to hold the Royal Parade at night as well as day to attract more tourists." Kim continued "The city signed a MoU with various media, tourist and public organizations in China last February and we will introduce more of K-Culture relate festivals and events to attract more Chinese tourists to the city." Mayor Yeom concluded "We will reflect the opinions and suggestions gathered today in future policies. Meanwhile, I ask each department and related organization to do its best to promote Visit Year 2016 Suwon Hwaseong through meticulous preparation and implementation."

Suwon City creates UnionPay Zone
Suwon, with Gyeonggi Convention & Visitors Bureau, Goyang, Seongnam and BC Card, is launching UnionPay Zone in cooperation with UnionPay China. The heads and officials of those partner institutions and organizations signed a business agreement to promote the consumption level of Chinese tourists in Korea. Established in March 2002, UnionPay is the sole national credit card company in China consisting of 88 Chinese banks. It ranked No.1 in the world in issuing the number of card totaling 5 billion by 2014. BC Card is the sole partner card of UnionPay in Korea meaning that you can make a transaction on UnionPay at BC Card affiliated stores. An official of Suwon said "Chinese who use UnionPay tend to use the card only on affiliated stores. Therefore, we can significantly increase the usage rate if we create UnionPay zones in Gyeonggi Province." According to a report, more than 46% of foreign tourists visited Korea last year were Chinese, with 924,554 to visit the province, and most of them used the card instead of cash. The agreement will encourage UnionPay in China to promote UnionPay zones in Gyeonggi Province on/off line and through brochure while BC Card Korea is expanding the affiliated stores and providing the necessary data to UnionPay.
