소프트웨어기반의 新가치 창출, ‘SW중심사회’의 청사진을 그리다

첨단 기술의 놀라운 발전은 개인 뿐 아니라 기업과 국가의 경쟁력에도 커다란 영향을 미친다. 특히 하드웨어 기술이 갈수록 소형화, 고속화되면서 이를 활용하기 위한 소프트웨어 기술의 중요성 또한 더욱 증대되고 있다. 소프트웨어가 산업과 사회, 인류의 삶의 중심이 되는 시대가 다가오고 있다.

전공지식과 SW소양 겸비한 실전적 융합인재 양성
최근 온·오프라인을 통틀어 단연 화제의 중심에 올랐던 키워드는 바로 ‘알파고’였다. 인간이 만들어낸 인공지능이 스스로 학습하고, 새로운 수를 찾아나가는 모습은 소프트웨어에 대한 사람들의 인식을 완전히 뒤바꾸어 놓았다. 많은 전문가들은 소프트웨어의 이 같은 발전이 우리 삶의 방식을 근본적으로 변화시킬 것이라 전망하고 있다. 우리의 일상 다양한 곳에 광범위하게 적용되며, 창조적 혁신을 불러일으키는 주역이 바로 ‘소프트웨어’가 되리라는 것이다.
이에 아주대학교 SW중심대학은 앞으로 다가올 소프트웨어 중심시대를 준비하며, 미래지향적 사고와 창의적인 문제해결 능력을 갖춘 실전적 SW전문 인재를 양성하고자 노력하고 있다. 아주대 SW중심대학은 지난 2015년 10월, 미래창조과학부의 ‘SW중심대학 지원사업’에 선정된 이래 산업체가 요구하는 실전적 SW인재 양성을 위한 교육 혁신에 힘써왔다. 특히 산업체 밀착형 산학협력 프로그램인 ‘i-SOFT(industry oriented-SOftware Focused Training)’를 통해 실무능력과 창의적인 응용능력을 갖춘 인재 양성에 매진하고 있다. 류기열 교수는 “저희 SW중심대학에서는 교과목과 연계된 산업체 지향형 산학협력 프로그램인 ‘i-SOFT’를 실시하고 있습니다. IT집중교육, 자기주도프로젝트와 같은 산학협력 프로젝트교과목과 산업체 간의 인턴십 연계 체제를 구축했으며, 프로젝트 주제 발굴에서 수행·평가에 이르기까지 교수, 산업체 전문가가 공동 밀착 지도를 수행하고 있습니다. 또한 산학협력중점교수를 3인 이상 확보하여 산학협력 활동을 적극 지원하고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다.
아주대 SW중심대학은 ACM/IEEE 커리큘럼 및 IT분야 공학교육인증(서울어코드)에 부합하는 교육과정을 제공하고 있으며, IT 영어 교육, 해외 인턴십, 해외 현장교육 등 다양한 글로벌 교육프로그램을 통해 학생들이 글로벌 리더십과 소프트웨어 역량을 고루 갖춘 글로벌 인재로 성장할 수 있도록 돕고 있다.

“SW기술의 발전이 미래사회의 방향을 제시할 것”
류 교수는 “SW중심시대를 맞아 요구되는 인재상은 단순한 SW 활용능력을 넘어 이를 각자의 전공분야에 응용, 소프트웨어의 새로운 가치를 창출할 수 있는 융합역량을 갖춘 인재입니다”라고 설명했다. 이에 아주대 SW중심대학에서는 인문, 사회, 공학 등 계열별·전공별 특성을 반영한 SW기초교육을 의무화함으로써 모든 학생들이 SW가치인식과 SW중심사회에서의 적응력을 향상시킬 수 있도록 돕고 있으며, 심화과정을 희망하는 비전공자를 위해 특화된 SW융합교육과정도 운영하고 있다. ‘ICT융합전공’ 과정을 통해 SW 비전공자들이 자신의 전공분야에서 SW융합을 구현할 수 있는 능력을 길러주고 있으며, 영문학, 사학, 사회학 등 인문학과 사회학 지식기반의 빅데이터 분석처리 능력 향상을 위한 ‘빅데이터 분야 특화 융합교육’도 시행하고 있다. 또한 최근 선진국을 중심으로 활발히 연구되고 있는 자동차제어분야의 SW개발역량 향상을 위해 ‘자동차SW연계전공’ 과정도 운영하고 있다. 이에 더해 대학에서는 오픈소스 SW교육을 강화함으로써 학생들의 SW생태계 구축과 적응력 향상에도 심혈을 기울이고 있다.
류 교수는 “SW 분야 발전을 위해 무엇보다 중요한 것은 지역사회 전반에 SW기술의 중요성과 가치에 대한 인식을 확산시키는 일입니다. 첨단 SW기술에 대한 사회적 관심이 높아질수록 학생들은 학업에 대한 동기부여를 갖게 되며, 우수한 인재들이 SW분야에 유입될 수 있습니다”라고 설명했다. 이에 대학에서는 수원시와 연계해 지역사회 SW가치확산 프로그램인 ‘A-STaR’을 운영하고 있다. 이 프로그램을 통해 아주대 SW중심대학에서는 초중등학생을 대상으로 한 청소년 SW캠프, 교사 대상 SW교육 프로그램, 지역주민 대상의 개방형 온라인 SW교육과정 등을 시행하고 있으며, 홍보, 특강 등 사회적 기여활동에도 참여하고 있다.
현재 우리들이 뉴스를 통해 보고 듣는 놀라운 혁신의 대부분은 소프트웨어가 만드는 것이다. 인공지능, 무인자동차, 빅데이터, 드론, 3D프린터 등 소프트웨어 기술의 발전 없이는 불가능하다. 이른바 ‘제4차 산업혁명’이라고도 불리는 소프트웨어 중심시대를 맞아 국내는 물론, 세계를 선도할 창의적인 글로벌 SW전문 인재 양성에 힘쓰고 있는 아주대학교 소프트웨어중심대학의 앞으로의 행보를 주목해 보자.

Fostering talented students in software
The recent match between Lee and AlphaGo created a sensation in the world. It increased the level of our expectations and concerns on artificial intelligence and many experts are predicting that it will nevertheless change our lives. And this artificial intelligence can be explained with the word 'software'. Appointed as National Center of Excellence in Software in October 2015 by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Ajou University has exerted its effort in fostering talented students in the field through its innovative 'i-SOFT (industry oriented-SOftware Focused Training)' programme. Prof. Ryu said "With i-SOFT, we introduced IT-focused training system, self-directed learning projects, internship programmes and secured 3 professors specialized in industry-academic cooperation. All the courses are taught and instructed by both professors and industry specialists."  In terms of curriculum, the university runs it in accordance with ACM/IEEE Curriculum and IT Engineering Education Certified. And its IT English and overseas internship and overseas field training programmes in particular make students enable to grow with global leadership and software capability. 

"Development of SW technology will change the future"
Ryu said "We foster students equipped not only with knowledge in SW but also the ability to apply the knowledge to his/her own field to create a new value." For this reason, the university made the SW Basic course compulsory for all students regardless their major while the course of Fusion Big Data encourages students to build basic knowledge in English, history and sociology. The university also runs a course relating to automobile SW in order to raise student's capability in the field and is strengthening open source SW education which will help students create SW ecology and application in the field. Ryu said "The most important part of all is to increase public awareness about the importance of SW technology and its value. The more interest of people in SW, the stronger motivation of students in related R&D and this will contribute to increasing overall national competitiveness." In order to make it happen, the university is running A-STaR (Ajou-Students Teachers and Residence) programme in cooperation with Suwon City. A-STaR invites elementary, middle and high school students and teachers to SW Camp, SW Training, Open Online SW Training, special lectures and social contribution activities. The wonders of technology we are experiencing today are all created by software. Without it, we are impossible to see artificial intellectuals, manless vehicles, big data, drone and 3D printing. In the age of software, so called the 4th revolution, the role of Ajou University as National Center of Excellence in Software is highly expected to bring yet another wonder and innovation to our society.
