À̸¦ À§ÇØ ¼­ ´ëÇ¥´Â 2020³â±îÁö ȯ°æÃøÁ¤Àåºñ¿Í ȯ°æºÐ¼® ÇÁ·Î±×·¥À» ÀÌ¿ëÇؼ­ Àü ¼¼°è Ä¿ÇÇ »êÁöÀÇ ¸¶ÀÌÅ©·Î ¿þ´õ¸¦ ½Ç½Ã°£À¸·Î °üÃøÇÑ ÈÄ »ýµÎ¿¡ ¹ÌÄ¡´Â ¿µÇâ·ÂÀ» ºÐ¼®ÇÏ°í ¿ÀǼҽº·Î °ø°³ÇÒ °èȹÀÌ´Ù. ¶ÇÇÑ 2025³â±îÁö ÇØ¿Ü ÁÖ¿ä »êÁö¸¶´Ù ȯ°æºÐ¼®¼¾Å͸¦ Á¶¼ºÇÏ¿© »ýµÎ Ç°Áú Çâ»ó¿¡ ±â¿©ÇÒ ¿¹Á¤À̶ó ÀüÇß´Ù. ±×´Â “Ä¿ÇÇ´Â ÀÌÁ¦ ¹®È­ÀÇ Çϳª·Î ÀÚ¸®¸Å±èÇÏ°í ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. It’s the specialty coffee, a cup of excellence.

The taste and aroma of coffee varies according to kinds of ground coffee and methods of extraction. In such relation, a new kind of coffee called ‘specialty coffee’ is recently receiving a warm response from coffee lovers. To be a specialty coffee, it must pass through the strict standards for growing beans, process of supply, and roasting. We met Seo Myeong-seok, president of Daewang Coffee, who is seeking for high-class specialty coffee representing the global trend of coffee culture. 

Incessant fervor toward high-quality coffee beans 
According to SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America), to be a specialty coffee, first, its producing center and farm must be single and definite, second, it must have certain processes of growing, harvest and careful selection, third, it must have outstanding and excellent individualistic flavor of the original farm’s own, and lastly, it must be accompanied by the roasting that can distinguish the characteristics and uniqueness of the producing center’s own. 

Daewang Coffee Co. is an enterprise specialized in importing and circulating coffee beans in joint management by professional connoisseurs in coffee beans, best-performance roasters in the nation and proven barristers with excellent records from every contest. Since its foundation Daewang has acted a leading role in establishing domestic structure of circulation and enhancing product quality until 2014. The company imported ‘Ethiopian Guji Highland,’ one of the best specialty beans in the world, exclusively. It also directed its energies toward enhancing the coffee quality by developing ‘nitrogen substitution & vacuum packing’ for extended relish of high-quality beans and the lifespan of embryo bud and by safekeeping them in anti-temperature, anti-humidity warehouse by subdividing it into units per 10kg. President Seo of Daewang said, “For coffee beans, it is most important to sort out clearly the environment they have grown in and what flavor they have. Accordingly, president Seo visit the producing center in person to check detailed history and review the soil components in order to select the best coffee beans, while for sales, he delivers them only after verifying the quality thoroughly by controlling and sampling them daily. 

The high quality of Daewang Coffee products achieved after such hard and consitent efforts is proved by the brilliant records the company has won from domestic prestigious coffee contests. Currently, Daewang Coffee is delivering products to a thousand named specialty shops in the country, including the Hyatt Hotel, with 40 tons of monthly shipments for coffee beans, and increasing its influence on the domestic market for specialty coffee beans. 

“Will promote the excellence of Korean coffee to the world” 
President Seo said, “My wish is to supply good quality beans to consumers at reasonable prices and pay suitable expenses to the farm owner. This is the way that everyone from producing centers to shops can build up in a virtuous cycle.” Accordingly, Daewang is being devoted to R&D to maintain the quality of products operating coffee houses at Suseong and Dongseongro areas in Daegu to keep partnership. Besides, to broaden the base of specialty coffee, the company is continually holding non-profit coffee classes and seminars by inviting famous barristers. Daewang Coffee’s philosophy for co-existence and co-prosperity is also found in building partnership with the producing centers of beans. By building a research center in Guatemala, the company is circulating ‘Stronghold S7,’ a new trend for global roasters. This is leading to production of good quality beans in linkage to high-class coffee instructions. 

Daewang has the purpose of reaching the top domestically in the share of supplying coffee beans. To that end, president Seo is planning to observe the micro-weather of coffee production centers around the world in real time using environmental measurement equipment and environmental analysis program by 2020 and then release the analysis of its influence on coffee beans as an open source. He also mentioned his plan to build environmental analysis centers in main centers overseas in an effort to contribute to increasing the quality of beans. He clarified, “Coffee is now setting a trend for global culture. Rather than a simple coffee vendor, we will make efforts to promote the excellence of Korean coffee in the world by seeking for Korea’s own coffee brand.” Through constant enthusiasm and efforts, it is expected that Daewang Coffee will make a big progress in establishing a healthy coffee culture in the not too distant future.
