출산을 앞두고 있는 산모에게 있어 가장 중요한 선택 중 하나는 바로 ‘병원을 고르는 일’이다. 최신 시설과 첨단 의료기술은 물론이고, 고객의 편의를 위한 환경, 산모와 아이를 우선하는 작은 배려들이 모였을 때 여성들은 평생토록 가슴에 남을 감동을 얻게 된다. 이에 <월간 파워코리아>에서는 2월 25일, 개원 14주년을 맞이하는 ‘포항여성아이병원’을 찾아 그들이 펼치고 있는 행복한 진료에 대한 이야기를 들어봤다.

포항여성아이병원은 2002년 2월 25일, 포항 최초의 산부인과 전문병원을 개설하며 첫 진료를 시작했다. 이들은 병원에서 직접 운영하는 산후조리원과 가족분만실, 모자동실 등을 지역에서 처음으로 선보이며, 산모와 아기가 가장 건강하고 편안할 수 있는 선진 출산문화를 선도해왔다. 개원 이듬해인 2003년 유니세프 한국위원회로부터 지역 내 유일한 ‘아기에게 친근한 병원(Baby-Friendly Hospital)’으로 지정된 여성아이병원은 2014년에는 경북 최초로 산부인과 의료기관 인증마크를 획득했으며, 지난해인 2015년에는 보건복지부 지정 ‘산부인과 전문병원’으로 인증 받기도 했다.

조기현 대표원장은 “의료기관 인증과 전문병원 인증 획득은 우수한 전문 의료서비스와 환자의 안전 수준, 신뢰할 수 있는 의료의 질을 공식적으로 인정받은 것이라 할 수 있습니다. 저희는 앞으로도 환자가 믿고 안심할 수 있는 의료 환경과 만족스러운 의료서비스를 제공해 더욱 신뢰받는 병원이 되도록 힘을 쏟고자 합니다”라고 밝혔다.

이 병원에서는 21명의 각 분야 전문의를 포함한 총 173명의 임직원들의 환자의 안전과 쾌적한 의료 환경 조성, 환자 중심의 의료 서비스 제공을 위해 노력하고 있다. 특히 산부인과, 소아·청소년과, 내과, 외과, 마취과 등 각 분야의 전문의들이 제각기 특화된 전문 클리닉을 운영하고 있으며, 경북 최대 규모의 의료진을 보유하고 있어 산부인과 진료 예약제를 통해 30분 이내 검진이 가능하다는 장점도 갖고 있다. 또한 지역 내 유일하게 전용 스마트폰 어플을 이용한 실시간 진료예약 및 상담 서비스도 이용할 수 있다는 것이 특징이다.

경북 최고의 의료 시설과 첨단 장비 구축

포항여성아이병원은 경북 최고의 시설과 의료 장비로도 이름이 높다. 특히 GE사의 최고 사양인 입체 초음파 장비와 초음파 영상, X-ray 영상을 비교 및 분석할 수 있는 팍스 시스템, 최고급 위·대장 내시경, 선명한 화질로 정밀진단이 가능한 디지털 X-ray 장비 등을 사용해 최신식 진료를 시행하고 있다. 또한 산부인과와 소아과 내에 60개의 병상을 갖추고 있으며, 가족 분만실 5개를 보유하고 있어 모든 산모가 가족과 함께하는 편안한 환경에서 분만할 수 있도록 배려하고 있다.

조 원장은 “저희 병원에서는 산모와 아기가 편안하고 건강한 상태에서 지낼 수 있도록 다양한 시설들을 마련해 놓고 있습니다. 병원 주위 공간을 나무와 물, 꽃 등의 조경으로 꾸미고 분수와 벽천, 공원, 포토존 등을 조성해 산모와 아이들에게 정서적 안정감을 제공하고 있습니다”라고 설명했다. 또한 병원은 태교에서부터 출산, 육아까지 산모와 아이들을 위한 다양한 무료 강좌도 실시하며 문화적 혜택도 제공하고 있다.

이처럼 산모와 아이를 위한 다양한 시스템 가운데서도 가장 긍정적인 평가를 받고 있는 부분은 산부인과 전담의사제와 분만실 전담간호사제의 실시다. 여성아이병원에서는 산모의 산전 진찰을 진료한 전문의가 분만에서부터 입원, 퇴원까지 담당하는 전담의사제와 전담간호사제를 도입해 보다 지속적이고 체계적인 산모지원 시스템을 운영하고 있다. 또한 입원 중인 산모나 아기의 치료를 위해 타 병원으로 이송되어야 할 경우에는 진료비를 지원하기도 하는 등 확실한 서비스를 자랑하고 있다.

조 원장은 “저희 병원의 차별점이라면 산모와 소통하는 병원을 추구한다는 점입니다. 산모들은 스마트폰 어플을 통해 진료 및 당직 의료진과 대기환자 수 등에 관한 정보를 실시간으로 확인할 수 있습니다. 또한 산모 대표 5명과 병원 대표 5명으로 구성된 산모행복위원회를 운영해 매달 회의를 갖고, 산모들의 불만이나 애로사항을 적극 수용해 개선해 나가고자 노력하고 있습니다. 그밖에도 병원 내에 별도의 서비스팀을 운영하고 있어 아주 작은 불편사항이라도 즉각 반영할 수 있도록 노력하고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다.

이 병원의 또 다른 차별점은 임직원들의 만족도 향상을 위한 노력에도 심혈을 기울이고 있다는 점이다. 월 1회 열리는 경영진 회의를 비롯, 팀장 회의(주 1회), 의료진 세미나(월 1회), 대표원장과 직원 간 대화의 장인 층간 모임(월 1회)을 실시함으로써 직원과의 소통에도 많은 시간을 투자하고 있으며 직원 복지를 위해 직원 자녀 대학 장학금(등록금 전액)을 2016년부터 지역 내 병원 최초로 시행하고 있습니다. 환자들에게 만족도 높은 서비스를 제공하기 위해선 먼저 직원들의 사기 진작과 만족도 향상이 중요하다는 생각이다.

Pohang Yeosung I Hospital opened its door on 25 February 2002 as the frist maternity unit in the city. The hospital also opened a postnatal care center, family birthing room and mother & baby room within the hospital for the first time in the region. This innovation of the hospital was well received by being appointed as a Baby-Friendly Hospital by UNICEF Korea Committee in 2003 which soon followed by obtaining a certification mark of obstetrics for the first time in North Gyeongsang Province in 2014 and was also appointed as a hospital, specialized in obstetrics by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2015. Director Jo says "Obtaining certification and appointment generally mean that the hospital provides quality and trustworthy medical services. It is needless to say, therefore, that we will keep providing excellent customer services in addition to our top notch medical treatment." Pohang Yeosung I Hospital currently has 21 doctors in each field of obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery and anesthesiology and they are closely working together with 173 staff. It is the largest medical team in North Gyeongsang Province and you can get a treatment within 30 minutes on reservation. It is another advantage of the hospital that you can use a smart phone app to easily arrange an appointment or consulting service.

Pohang Yeosung I Hospital is also famous for its cutting edge medical equipment and facilities. The hospital uses the medical equipment maker GE's ultrasonic test equipment, pax system that can compare and analyse X-ray images, endoscopic instrument, and HD digital X-ray, and runs 60 wards with 5 family birthing rooms. Jo continues "We have all the facilities needed for a good maternity unit and you can see trees, waters, flowers, fountains, photo zones and resting areas around you here and there in the hospital. We also provide free lectures on pregnancy, child rearing and health and we are sure that mother, baby and their families can have a fantastic experience at Pohang Yeosung I Hospital." The hospital's exclusive doctor system and the delivery room's exclusive nurse system in particular received a great response. The doctor takes care of all the process from hospitalization, delivery to discharge and the nurse provides a prompt and continuous support. The hospital also gives a support for medical expense in the case that a mother or baby need to be transferred to other hospital.

Growing together through communication and co-existence

Jo says "Communication is our motto. Mothers can check about their appointment, reservation, and waiting list in real time on the app. The Mother Happiness Committee, consisted of 10 representatives (5 mothers, 5 doctors), hold a meeting every month to solve complaints and problems, and the Service Team finds even a small inconvenience to improve the level of services." Meanwhile, Director Jo also takes care of staff's welfare. The monthly management meeting, weekly team leaders' meeting, monthly seminar of the medical team, and monthly staff and management meeting are all run in the hope of improving staff's welfare. In addition, Jo will start to support the whole four year university tuition fee for those with a university student in the family from this year for the first time among the hospitals in the region. Jo concludes "Before I'm the director of a hospital, I'm a citizen. It means that I want to grow together with the residents and for this, I and my staff will do our utmost effort in providing faster yet professional and quality medical services."
