Coffee gives us a pleasant and relaxing break with its unique smell. Located in Daegu, Daegu Coffee Academy/The Beans Coffee opens a day by roasting blue-green coffee beans into deep brown. Thanks to the strong presence of private coffee shops and related training institutes in Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province and Gangneung, franchise shops are rather shrunk to a corner in the regions. Daegu Coffee Academy in particular among those institutes was approved by Education Office in 2009 and is running various courses such as barista certificate, hand drip, latte art, cafe beverages and cafe startup. CEO Park is a outside professor at Kyongbuk Science College, runs The Beans Coffee and is busy to give lectures at various companies and public institutions. She says “I spend 80~120 hours on lectures a month and I believe I has given the best lectures for the last 7 years in Daegu. I run various courses from barista certificate to startup with only a few students in each class. But startup course is run based on 1:1. Students also come from China and some of them opened their own shop in China, Vietnam and Chile. To keep my technique up to date, I regularly travel to Japan twice or three times a year and recently finished ‘Advanced Course’ and ‘Special Professional Course’ at UCC Coffee Academy and a roasting course at Fuji Royal. I also invited Masanobu, Chairman of Gono Coffee, to a seminar held at my academy.” Park turns a coffee lover to a coffee expert in 3 to 6 months through her professional knowledge and passionate and effective communication.

The Beans Coffee is another name for unique

Most franchise coffee chains use blended coffee beans but Park values the character of coffee high. She says “Private coffee shop owners tend to focus on the kind and status of coffee beans. Most of them are coffee lovers and they take the quality of the coffee very seriously. The coffee market has rapidly grown for the last 10 years but it’s time we needed to pay attention to qualitative growth.” Instead of teaching how to provide big size coffee at cheap prices, Park teaches how to make good coffee. She continues “Diversity and expertise will lead coffee culture in the future. Japanese people for example grind coffee beans at home by themselves and Korea seems to follow.” Park provides uniquely roasted coffee and coffee beans as well as Dutch coffee through The Beans Coffee. The Beans Coffee roasts more than 10 kinds coffee beans and adds personality with Brazil’s Vinho and Caramelado and Ethiopia’s Chelba G1 and Koke Honey. The Beans Coffee recently opened a shop in Duty Free Shop at Daegu Hotel and Park introduced her unique 3 kinds coffee made of her secret blending.

Park spreads how to enjoy good coffee

CEO Park majored in food industry and has numerous cooking related certificates. She tells students about coffee culture “We need to study hard about the taste and the smell. It’s not an easy job for me to take 20 to 30 cups of coffee a day to explore the taste and smell but I can have a high sense on both qualities in return. You need to know the difference between hand drip and espresso. You also need to know that coffee contains polyphenol which is good for anti-oxidation, anti-aging and improving depression.” Park emphasized that she would keep fostering talented coffee experts including Q Grader through Daegu Coffee Academy. Coffee today has become an important part of our lives and Power Korea wishes Park a successful 2016.
