2015 세계과학정상회의,가수 씨엘과 부친 이기진 교수 홍보대사 위촉
미래창조과학부는 최양희 장관은 지난 달 21일 걸그룹 투애니원(2NE1)의 리더 씨엘과 부친인 과학자 이기진 교수를 ‘2015 세계과학정상회의’ 홍보대사로 위촉하고, 위촉장을 수여했다고 밝혔다. ‘2015 세계과학정상회의’(www.daejeon-oecd2015.org/kr)는 경제협력개발기구(OECD) 회원국의 과학기술분야 장관급이 모여 향후 10년간의 세계 과학기술정책 방향을 결정하는 중요 회의로 오는 10월 19일부터 23일까지 대전에서 개최된다. 씨엘은 “아버지의 영향으로 과학기술이 매우 중요하다는 인식이 있다. 과학기술을 통해 전 세계가 처한 문제의 해결책을 찾는 세계과학정상회의에 홍보대사로 참여하게 돼 기쁘게 생각 한다”며 “세계과학정상회의가 전 세계가 사랑하는 케이팝(K-pop)처럼, 전 세계가 인정하는 과학한류의 계기가 되길 바란다.”고 소감을 밝혔다.

이기진 교수는 “과학기술이 우리 실생활과 얼마나 밀접한지 그리고 얼마나 흥미로운 것인지를 이번 세계과학정상회의를 통해 많은 사람들이 알았으며 좋겠다.”며 앞으로도 지속적으로 과학문화 대중화를 위해 노력할 것을 밝혔다. 세계과학정상회의의 의장인 미래부 최양희 장관은 “세계과학정상회의를 위해 홍보대사로 부녀가 함께 참여해 줘서 감사하고, 이번 활동을 통해 해외에서는 과학한류의 시작이 되고, 국내에서도 과학문화 확산의 계기가 되길 바란다.”며 “세계과학정상회의는 전 세계가 공동으로 해결해야 할 과제를 논의하는 회의이니 만큼 국민 여러분들의 전폭적인 관심과 참여를 기대한다.”라고 덧붙였다. 한편, 세계과학정상회의는 ‘과학기술혁신을 통한 글로벌 미래 창조’라는 주제로 세계 각국의 과학기술 장․차관 60여명과 과학기술 분야 석학 등 3,000여명이 참가하는 국제회의로, 경제협력개발기구(OECD) 본부가 있는 프랑스 파리에서 열리던 ‘경제협력개발기구(OECD) 과학기술장관회의’가 처음으로 파리를 벗어나 해외인 한국에서 열리게 된다.

미래부 최양희 장관, 해킹방어대회 데프콘 최초 우승팀 격려
미래창조과학부 최양희 장관은 지난 달 19일 우리나라 사상 최초로 데프콘(DEFCON CTF)에서 우승한 ‘DEFKOR‘ 팀과 격려 오찬을 가졌다. 오찬에는 임종인 안보특보, 백기승 원장, 유준상 원장, 홍석희 교수등도 함께하여 우리나라를 대표한 ‘DEFKOR’팀의 성과를 축하하며 우수한 화이트해커의 사회적 기여 방안 등에 대해서도 논의하였다. 이번 우승은 지난 ‘12년부터 미래부가 역점적으로 추진한 ‘차세대 보안리더 양성 프로그램’을 통해 정부와 산학연의 끈질긴 인재 양성 노력의 결실로 이루어 진 것이며, 오찬에 참석한 임정원씨는 “BoB가 단순한 취업 교육을 하는 곳이었다면 데프콘 1등은 10년 후에도 불가능했을 것이고, 바람이 있다면 앞으로도 정부에서 BoB와 같은 양질의 프로그램을 꾸준히 지원해서 더욱 뛰어난 후배들이 등장했으면 한다.”라고 말했다.

최양희 장관은 데프콘에서 우리나라 참가 사상 처음으로 우승을 한 DEFKOR팀을 축하하며, 이를 토대로 “정보보호 산업의 도약과 학벌이 아닌 능력중심 사회 구현을 앞당기는 계기가 될 수 있도록, 미래부는 국내의 척박한 정보보호 산업을 우리나라 미래 성장 동력으로 키우기 위하여 차세대 보안리더(BoB), 정보보호 특성화고, 마이스터고 및 영재교육원 등을 통해 잠재력과 가능성을 갖춘 인재를 조기에 발굴‧양성하고,  정보보호 특성화대학, 고용계약형 석사과정 등 전문양성 프로그램을 통해 정보보호 전문인력 및 화이트 해커(White Hacker)를 육성해 나갈 것 이다.“라고 밝혔다. 

Choi appoints CL and her father Lee as honorary ambassadors for 2015 World Science & Technology Forum
Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Yanghee Choi appointed the leader of a girl group 2NE1 CL and her scientist father Prof. Kijin Lee as honorary ambassadors for 2015 World Science & Technology Forum on August 21. The forum invites Science Ministers from OECD countries to decide the direction of science technology policies for the next 10 years. The event will be held from October 19 to 23 this year. CL said "My father taught me about the importance of science for mankind and I'm glad to be an honorary ambassador for the forum. Like the world loves K-Pop, I wish the forum would serve as a momentum to spread excellence of Korean science and technology to the world." Prof. Lee said "I hope more people will know about how science affects our lives and how interesting the subject is through the forum." Minister Choi said "I thank CL and Lee for their support and I hope the forum will promote public interest in science and spread topnotch Korean technology to the world", adding that "the forum will discuss on the pending issues of the world and we need an active support and participation from people of all ages."  

Under its motto 'Creating Global Future through Innovations in Science and Technology', the forum has been participated by 3,000 people including 60 Science Ministers and Deputy Ministers and scholars and specialists. Also, OECD's Science and Technology Ministers' Meeting is held for the first time in Korea. It has been usually held in Paris where the headquarters of OECD located. 

Choi encourages the first DEFCON CTF winner team 
Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Yanghee Choi had a luncheon with  DEFKOR, the first Korean winner of DEFCON CTF (Hacking Conference) and encouraged them on August 19. The luncheon was participated by Assistant Special Security Officer Jeongin Im, Director Junsang Yoo and Prof. Sukhee Hong and they discussed about the ways for the excellent hackers to give social contribution. The winning was a result of one of the Ministry's core projects 'Next Generation Security Leaders Program' (since 2012). A hacker Jeongwon Im said "If BoB(Best Of the Best: next generation security leader project) was just a project to give training on employment, winning the top prize at DEFCON CTF would not have been possible even after 10 years. I hope that government will keep support programs like BoB to foster more talented people." Minister Choi said "We will keep doing our best to create a society that values one's ability more than background and to promote information security industry as Korea's growth engine. For this, we will support BoB, specialized high schools, meister high schools, educational institutes for the talented, information security specialized universities and job-guaranteed master's courses in order to foster industry professionals including White Hacker."
