환경은 열려야 가능한 것, 열려야만 주어진 것이다. 그런데 그 환경을 열어가기 위해서는 내적 "힘"이 필요하다. 노력을 해서 얻어지는 것도 있지만 노력하지 않아도 필요한 것이 채워진다는 건 "선물"이나 다름없다. 그런 선물과 같은 역할과 꿈을 이루는 "힘"을 길러주는데 상상력만 한 도구가 없다.

상상력을 자극하는 소재로 창의적 정서 발달을 위한 개연성 있는 작품을 소개하고, 활용 가치가 있는 양질의 교육콘텐츠 개발을 목표로 하고 있는 이매진팝스는 2013년 8월에 설립하여 콘텐츠 라인업 준비 기간을 거친 뒤, 올 2015년 3월에 아동 대상으로 코끼리 첫 작품인 '코끼리 브루니와 황금구슬'이라는 동화와 완구 세트를 선보였다.

상상력을 바탕으로 하는 이매진팝스는 어린이와 청소년들이 꿈과 희망을 실현시킬 행동력과 용기를 연습할 수 있도록 깊이 있는 주제를 지닌 멀티 플랫폼 교육 콘텐츠를 기획하고 개발한다. 이매진팝스라는 독특한 명칭 역시 사고의 유연성, 낙천성, 자존감의 원천이 되는 '상상력(Imagine)'과 얼음과자(Popsicle) 느낌의 알록달록한 색깔로 통통 튀는 '팝스 (Pops)'를 결합해 'Imagine+Pops'라고 이름붙인 것이다.

이매진팝스의 김인정 대표는 하버드 교육대학원에서 '문화 정체성 발달'관련 연구를 진행했다. 당시 '참된 교육'의 의미를 되새겼던 경험으로 김 대표는 귀국 후 유네스코 아시아태평양 국제이해교육원에서 국제이해교육 영문 잡지'상생'과 다문화 관련 책을 만들었다. 깊이 있는 소양과 관련 배경 지식을 쌓기 위해 뉴욕 인문사회학 대학원에서 '상호 문화 간 이해'를 연구, 교육 콘텐츠 전문기업 이매진 팝스를 설립하게 되었다.

회사의 대표이자 동화작가이기도 한 김 대표는 "동화작가로서 나의 길도 이와 다르지 않다. 작품 하나하나에 담긴 메시지는 의미가 있어야 한다고 생각한다. '동화'는 단순한 구조의 이야기로 교훈을 전달하지만 어려움이 닥쳤을 때 시련을 슬기롭게 극복하는 지혜와, 동기부여를 하며 상황에 유연하게 대처하는 능력과 기본적인 가치관, 그리고 인격의 정서형성에 영향을 준다"며 교육 과정에서 동화가 가진 중요성을 다시 한 번 언급했다.

이매진팝스는 멀티 플랫폼으로 활용 가능한 확장 가능성, 그리고 놀이 중심의 창의성과 유연한 사고 개발에 중점을 둔 접근과 같은 전문성을 가지고 글로벌 시장에 진출할 계획이다. 이매진팝스는 향후 공감과 이해의 가치를 심는 개념 동화 위주로 해외 판권 수출, 볼로냐 국제 도서전 진출을 목표로 하고 있다. 2년차 신생 기업 이매진팝스는 올 10월로 연기된 서울국제도서전에서 첫 동화 '코끼리 브루니와 황금구슬'과 '지붕 위의 뽀르끼'를 시작으로 향후 다양한 주제로 단편동화 및 캐릭터 시리즈물을 선보일 예정이다. 독자적이고 복합적인 컨텐츠를 통해 많은 사람들에게 '희망'을 되찾아주고자 하는 이매진팝스의 발걸음이 결실을 맺게 될 날이 다가오고 있다.

ImaginePops pops out fancy-full of imaginations
ImaginePops develops unique storybooks and characters that can help nourish children's emotions and imaginations. Established by Lizzy Kim in August 2013, ImaginePops went through a preparation period for contents line up and released its first storybook and plaything set called 'Bruni and the Golden Pearl' in March this year. 

ImaginePops designs and develops multi platform educational contents for children and teenagers to spread their wings of dream and hope through encouragement and acting power. The word 'imagine' for Kim means flexible, optimistic and self-respecting thinking and the word 'pops' ping-ponging of colorful popsicle. Thus born is ImaginePops.

Kim carried out a research relating to 'development of cultural identity' when she studied at Harvard Graduate School of Education. She published in English an international understanding education magazine called 'Sang Saeng' when she worked for UNESCO Asia Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding. To acquire the background knowledge further, Kim studied 'understanding of interculturalism' at NYU's Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences before she eventually established ImaginePops. 

Serving as both CEO and a children's story writer, Kim thinks that a good story should contain a good message and the message should be meaningful. Kim continues "Children's stories are simple and moral but the simplicity often changes to a wisdom for us to overcome difficulties we are facing. They also help form a good personality and positive attitude." 

Meanwhile, Kim plans to knock on the doors of the global market based on the creativity and flexible thinking she has built. With her unique power in conjuring up sympathy and understanding in her stories, she will export publication rights. Also, she is participating in Seoul International Book Fair in October this year with her works 'Bruni and the Golden Pearl' and 'Porqi on the Roof' as well as preparing to exhibit her works including short stories and character series at Bologna Children's Book Fair.
