박근혜 대통령, ‘대한민국 ROTC 대표단과의 대화’ 참석
박근혜 대통령은 최근 대국민담화를 통해 4대 부문 개혁의 필요성을 국민들에게 소상히 밝히는 동시에 ROTC 대표단을 청와대로 초청했다. ROTC 장교단 출신만을 대상으로 청와대에 초청한 것은 역대 정부를 통틀어 처음 있는 일이다. 박근혜 대통령은 ROTC 대표단을 만난 자리에서도 4대 부문 개혁의 필요성을 강조하고 ROTC 대표단의 적극적인 역할을 주문했다.

먼저 최용도 ROTC 중앙회장은 ROTC가 국가안보는 물론 국민 대통합에 힘써 국민행복시대를 열어나가는데 적극 동참하고, 경제 활성화와 4대 구조개혁에도 힘을 모아 나갈 것을 약속했다. 이어 김원욱 ROTC 중앙회 부회장이 18만 5천여 명의 회원을 대표해서 경제 활성화와 평화통일을 위한 결의문을 발표하고, 박근혜 대통령에게 결의문을 전달했다.
박근혜 대통령은 대한민국 ROTC가 문무를 겸비한 리더를 많이 배출했고 우리 사회 각계에서 모범적인 활동을 해주고 있다며, 앞으로도 ROTC 정신을 토대로 많은 젊은이에게 희망을 주고 애국심을 가질 수 있는 일에 나서주길 바란다고 언급했다. 그러면서 이제는 그동안 이룩해온 값진 성과를 발판으로 과감한 혁신과 도전을 통해 대한민국의 새로운 도약을 시작할 때라고 강조했다. 박근혜 대통령은 새로운 도약을 위한 최선의 길로서 정부는 올해 초부터 4대 개혁을 중점적으로 추진하고 있다고 소개했다.

또한, 국가경쟁력을 높이기 위해서는 공공개혁의 추진이 필요하다고 언급했다. 더불어 금융개혁과 학생들의 꿈과 끼를 키우고 학벌이 아닌 능력중심 사회를 만들기 위한 교육개혁도 흔들림 없이 추진해 갈 것이라고 밝혔다. 이어 박근혜 대통령은 이러한 4대 개혁의 성공을 위해서 무엇보다도 국민들의 지지와 참여가 꼭 필요하다고 강조하며 ROTC 회원들이 적극적인 역할을 해 줄 것을 요청했다.

박근혜 대통령, 「광복 70주년 기념」 독립유공자 및 유족과의 오찬 참석
매년 8월은 청와대 앞길에 걸려있는 수많은 태극기와 더불어 길거리에서도 태극기를 쉽게 접할 수 있다. 특히 올해는 광복 70년이 되는 해인만큼 광복절의 의미도 더 크게 다가오는 것 같다. 지난달 12일 박근혜 대통령은 지금의 대한민국이 있을 수 있도록 노력해주신 독립유공자와 유족들을 청와대에 초청해 오찬을 함께 했다. 오찬에는 해외에 거주하고 계시는 독립유공자 후손들과 특별 귀화로 대한민국 국적을 취득하신 독립유공자들도 참석했다.

박근혜 대통령은 분단의 긴 역사를 극복하고 반드시 평화 통일을 이뤄야 하는 시대적 사명이 우리에게 주어져 있다고 생각한다며, ‘평화통일’을 강조했다. 특히 남북이 한반도의 평화통일을 이루어 민족의 공영을 이루고 세계 속의 선진 강국으로 도약하는 것이야말로 순국선열들께서 꿈꾸셨던 광복의 완성이 될 것이라고 밝혔다.

일제 강점기에 민족 지도자들이 독립운동의 횃불을 들고 앞장서고, 우리 선대들이 땀과 피로 독립을 위해 함께 싸웠던 것처럼, 이제 평화통일의 횃불을 들고 민족의 앞길을 밝혀나가기 위해 모두의 힘을 모아야 할 때라고 말했다. 박 대통령은 지금 우리가 누리고 있는 자유와 평화는 순국선열의 피와 땀의 결과물인 만큼 국내외의 독립운동 역사를 꾸준히 발굴하고 재조명해서, 자라나는 세대들에게 조국에 대한 긍지를 심어주고 올바른 역사관을 물려주도록 노력할 것이라고 강조했다.

Park invited the delegation of Korea ROTC 
Recently, President Park delivered her message about the importance on the four major structural reforms through a statement to the nation and invited the delegation of Korea ROTC to the Blue House. Park is the first president who invited the delegation and she emphasized on the importance of the reforms at the meeting. 

Chairman Yongdo Choi of ROTC promised that ROTC would actively participate in promoting national security and the four major structural reforms. Vice Chairman Wonwook Kim of ROTC, on the other hand, issued and announced a resolution for peaceful unification and economic revitalization on behalf of 185,000 members of ROTC and delivered the resolution to President Park. 

Park said that ROTC had fostered talented people who were good at both literary and martial arts and she asked them to take the initiative in arising hope and patriotism among young people. Park continued that it was time to start a new leap forward through a bold innovation and challenge based on our valuable achievements and she said that the four major structural reforms would play a key role. Park also mentioned that a reform on the public sector is vital to raise national competitiveness and the government would also give an unsparing effort in pushing forward a reform in finance and education. Park added people's support and participation were a must to achieve the reforms and asked ROTC to take an active role in implementation.

Park attended a luncheon with men of independence merit and their families
We can see the Korean national flag all over the nation in August every year. Especially, August this year is more meaningful as it marks 70 years of Korea's independence. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary, President Park invited men of independence merit and their families to the Blue House on 12 August last month to have a luncheon. The invited people included the descendents of the men who are living overseas and of those who acquired Korean citizenship. 

Park said that peaceful unification was our duty to achieve and the answer to those who devoted their lives to saving the country. She continued that like our ancestors had fought for the nation's independence, we had to gather together our strength to build a powerful nation. Park added that the peace and freedom we were enjoying now came from the sweat and blood of patriotic martyrs of the country and therefore we also must inspire younger generations with pride and patriotism and pass down a right understanding of our history and a unified country.
