"Though it is a thorny and rocky road, carry out your way till the end"
Executing Buddha's teaching by helping homeless
Chief Monk Jiwan of Sujeongsa Temple in Ulsan

Waiting for spring
'The age of endless competition' might be the word that stress us the most in this day and age. Millions of desires are collided with another millions of desires and the losers suffer from failure and despair. And they sometimes ended up being  homeless. But thankfully helping hand is around us. The Homeless Support Center in Ulsan is providing food and shelter and encouragement for them to gain their fee again.

The center is run by a corporate body called Ilbulseonwon founded by Chief Monk Jiwan of Sujeongsa Temple. Jiwan said "The history of Sujeongsa Temple started from a small missionary house in the center of Ulsan 20 years ago. I wanted to spread the teachings of Buddha to people in daily life but as the scale got bigger we had to move to the current temple in a mountain." Along the way, Jiwan came to know about homeless on the street whose eyes show no sign of hope and life. The panorama of their desire, love, pain and sadness filming in his head, monk Jiwan decided to run the center.

The center provides shelter, medical service, daily supplies, employment, consulting and other various support programs. Jiwan said "I feel really worth when they start a new life with the help of the center. Some of them write a thankful message on a paper for me and some of them warmly put their hands on mine with much gratitude and it moves my heart and brims my eyes with tear."

Daily pray and spiritual training for all living things
Jiwan said "There is not a thing we can possess in this world. We just borrow it for a flick of time and have to give it back when the time comes. What matters is how we use the time given to us. I hope more people lead their lives in love and sharing."

Meanwhile, Jiwan never stops praying and spiritual training for himself and for all living things. He said "For three years, I have been training myself in seclusion to find the meaning of life and not to waste my 37 years of leaving home in vain. I started with 108 bows a day, increased to 3,000 for two hundreds days and I'm doing now 5,000 times a day. I'm determined to keep walking this painful path to save life till the end." Jiwan's pray and training become more intense according to the level of social unstability because he believes that a pray of a person becomes millions like a drop of water becomes the sea. In this way, Jiwan said, we can overcome our hardships.

Jiwan hopes to visit Buddha's sacred grounds when his pray is completed. Like a bird in the sky carries on its life and a bug in the land, monk Jiwan wishes to carrie on his life for all living things.
