Premium hand-made men's shoes
Appearance, fashion and style have become one's selling point even for men nowadays. To catch up the trend, many select shops which import foreign brands are thriving. Gentle Ant (http://www.greant.co.kr/) among them has attracted a great deal of attention even from celebrities with its differentiated brand concept and taste for men's fashion. Gentle Ant has its unique identity as 'premium men's shoes' made by master shoemakers who keep the traditional Italian shoe making. Unlike normal select shops in Korea which import designers goods, Gentle Ant is facilitated the production line in the head office and directly produces more than 300 kinds of men's shoes. The biggest advantage it can provide is that you can have shoes made to order according to your foot size, shapes and taste. CEO jonghwan Lee of Gentle Ant said "our competitiveness is our unique design and a variety of leather products. You can have our luxury design and quality shoes at a reasonable price because we removed the price bubble which make them ridiculously expensive." Gentle Ant is currently running two of directly managed stores in Pohang City and an online store.

One step ahead of others
For his innovation and creativity, Lee received Trust Brand Awards last year. But he said that he had to go through many turns and twists to be where he is today. Lee was greatly influenced by his father who devoted his life to the clothes industry for 30 years. He started to learn to make clothes when he was a middle school student and became proficient in dealing with factories, management and even accounting. When he was 22, he jumped into the fashion industry in earnest without the help of his father and eventually established Gentle Ant. Lee said "you have to do much more than others. Not just doing hard but you need a passion in what you are doing and seek an advice whenever necessary."

Lee pointed out the fact that consumers' spending pattern was changing rapidly. They already know what is hot in overseas country and you must need continuous R&D if you are to satisfy these savvy consumers. Lee said "elect shops have to lead the trend. The moment they lose the power to read the trend, they are likely to fall behind. Especially important is that we have to satisfy consumers with both design and the price."

Knocking on the doors of global market 
Lee emphasized on the importance of combining the fashion industry with IT. It is regretful, however, that the government's support for the industries is not provided in balance as a provincial city like Pohang lacks related infrastructure and manpower. Lee also mentioned that the current booming in fashion industry was not all promising. Domestic fashion market is relatively small and the industry is already saturated which will naturally end up with a downturn. Lee's idea to find a breakthrough is at pioneering overseas market. Gentle Ant is preparing to enter Japanese market as the first step. Lee said "it is not easy to knock the doors of global market. But if we compete by our unique and trendy style, there surely is a way to break through." It is advantageous that a company has its unique identity that can bring forth design, production, sales and management. And Gentle Ant certainly has its identity and therefore the future is bright.
