KOTRA, expanding Korea-Cuba Trade with G2G
KOTRA (CEO Jaehong Kim) held 'G2G Consultation with Cuban Public Trade Enterprises' on July 7 at the KOTRA building in order to create a foundation for domestic companies to enter Cuban market and to expand trade between the two countries. The event was participated by 7 people of Economic Mission of Cuba and 20 people from 11 Korean companies including NPC (plastic) and NICS (marine products distribution). The Economic Mission comprises four institutions including GECOMEX, which is the holding company of 21 import & export public enterprises, MAQUIMPORT (machinery import) and MAPRINTER (raw material import). Irene Garcia, CEO of MAQUIMPORT said "we hope to import quality Korean agricultural equipments and machines through continuous business cooperation and we will expand the cooperative scope."

Kim said in response that "we are planning to try various programs such as G2G trade, empowerment project and exhibition to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Trade Center in La Habana and we will exert our effort to build even closer cooperation for the next 10 years." In fact, Kim visited Cuba last May and discussed on expanding economic cooperation and KSP (Knowledge Sharing Program) with Ileana Núñez Mordoche, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade & Investment and Orlando Hernández Guillen, Director of Chamber of Commerce. 

50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, opening win-win partnership through auto industry
KOTRA CEO Jaehong Kim pushed forward cooperation in the auto industry between ROK and Japan on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties. KOTRA held 'Korea-Japan Bilateral Business Consultation for Complete Car Parts' on July 1 at Crown Plaza Hotel, Nagoya, Japan. The event was part of Korea-Japan (Aichi) Economic Exchange Meeting and was hosted by Aichi Prefecture, Consulate General in Nagoya, Korea-Japan Economic Association and Korea-Japan Cooperation Foundation For Industry and Technology. The event was participated by 22 domestic car parts companies including Hyundai Motors and Daewoo International and 19 Japanese companies including Suzuki Motor, Mitsubishi, Denso and Toyota and total of 100 bilateral consultations were conducted in the event. Especially discussed on the event was local procurement of production base in the third countries such as Central and South America and East Asia over direct procurement in Japan.

Recently, Japanese companies is expanding their foreign production base and the demand of direct delivery in the locals is expected to increase. Suzuki and Denso in fact is planning to build new factories in India and Indonesia by 2017 and Doyota to build additional three factories in China and Mexico. Hyuntae Kim, Head of KOTRA Trade Center in Nagoya said "we hope that the event will boost up the car parts industry stagnated by weak Japanese Yen and we will keep introducing effective business models to promote active cooperation between the two countries."
