Gwangju city cooperates with Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry to create jobs for younger people  
 
Gwangju metropolitan city on the 17th last month signed an “MOU for creating youth’s jobs” with Gwangju Chamber of Commerce and Industry and positively went out to facilitate employment of youths in the community and relieve manpower shortage of enterprises by holding ‘a symposium for creating jobs for younger people.’ In the written agreement, both parties agreed to cooperate to employ the community’s young job seekers when recruiting new personnel in community enterprises and excavate customized employment projects for their stable working. They also agreed to share job information for job seekers and enterprises and make joint efforts in improving the youths’ job-finding environment and finding small but strong enterprises. To build a decent Gwangju community living together, both parties will cooperate in building human resources, communication and joint participation with detailed enforcements to go on by mutual consultation. In the following symposium, specialists from every field of life presented various opinions and entered into a heated discussion. Lee Gyoo-yong, section chief for Korea Labor Institute, indicated that supplier-oriented human resources polices, poor basis for good-quality jobs, limited upward mobility in jobs and poor working conditions of smaller enterprises as problems of younger people’s jobs, through his introduction titled “Youth’s employment problems and job policy.”To relieve this, he presented building customized job support system by transition of labor market, invitation of younger people to smaller enterprises, enhanced policy for no college education or the socially weak of youths, community employment strategy, and measures for younger people’s employment. Dr. Im Hyung-seop, Gwangju Development Institute, in his thematic presentation of ‘activity for younger people’s employment through creating quality jobs,’ indicated that “for 2013, the ratio of employment to lobs stands at 0.56, lower than the whole nation average, and shows big difference compared to the 7 special and metropolitan cities’ average (0.69).” He added, “Though in Gwangju region, job mismatch is gradually showing improvement, it is still serious.” For possible measures, he presented expansion of good jobs for younger people through fostering local enterprises, job creation for youth through fostering promising, growth enterprise in the community, expansion of youth employment in Bitgaram innovative city, and expansion of jobs through enhancing the quality of the existing employment.   
 
Enlarged investment of Gwangju foreign investment enterprise to boost local economy 
 
American entrepreneurs from the community is going to invest more in commercial refrigeration equipment plant and make a new investment for manufacturing diamond cutting tools. Gwangju metropolitan city declared that the city signed an investment agreement with Turbo Air, 2nd-place player in the US fridge market share, and with BST Korea, a company for manufacturing ‘diamond cutting tools’ for 35 billion won at city hall business room on 17th last month. Following this agreement, ‘Turbo Air (president Brian Kim} will invest in Premier (Park Chang-hwoon) and Ziko Korea  (Na Yoon-cho) located at Pyeongdong industrial complex for larger facilities. Premier was established by Turbo Air in 2009, producing fridges for stores and exporting over 70% overseas with over 160 workers employed. By securing extra site at the side of the existing factory, it will invest `10 billion won for increasing outputs. Ziko Korea, another investment employment of Turbo Air, established its first factory at Pyeongdong in 2012 producing commercial refrigeration showcase. To produce increased quantity of orders, it secured a plant site at Woljeon-dong and will establish the 2nd factory through additional investment of 5 billion won in the former half of this year. Mayor Yoon Jang-hyun said, “I appreciate entrepreneurs from Gwanju invested money in their native town playing a big role in employing the local able persons, We will make positive policies with one-stop service system for company support so that there may be no difficulty in business administration.”
