“우수창업아이템 발굴 및 육성·지원으로 창조경제 구현”

세상을 변화시키고 혁신을 가져오는 것들은 모두 처음에는 누군가의 단순한 아이디어에서 출발한다. 지금은 자산 가치 4조가 넘는 스포츠 액션캠 기업 ‘고프로(GoPro)’는 창업자인 닉 우드만이 여행 중 얻은 사소한 아이디어에서 출발했다. 이처럼 자신만의 독특하고 기발한 아이디어로 세상을 뒤집는 건 창업을 준비 중인 모든 이들의 로망이다. 

우수 아이디어를 창업으로 구현하다
아이디어 개발은 창업을 꿈꾸는 이들이 거치는 첫 번째 단계다. 그러나 많은 예비창업자들은 정작 어떻게 제품을 만들어야 할지, 어떤 과정을 거쳐 창업을 해야 하는지 모르는 경우가 많다. 조선대학교 이노폴리스캠퍼스사업단은 뛰어난 아이디어를 가진 예비창업자들이 성공적인 창업을 일궈낼 수 있도록 그 기반을 제공하고 있다. 지난 2014년 미래창조과학부와 연구개발특구진흥재단이 시행하는 이노폴리스캠퍼스 지정·육성 사업에 선정된 조선대학교는 이에 따라 2년간 국고 4억 원을 지원받아 창업아이템 검증프로그램과 대학 내 창업지원부서 협의체와의 연계를 통해 우수창업 아이템을 발굴하고 육성하기 위한 다양한 사업을 운영하고 있다. 

이노폴리스캠퍼스 지정·육성 사업은 특구내 대학의 창업지원 혁신 인프라와 사업화 역량을 활용해 재학생, 졸업생, 대학원생 및 일반인 예비창업자에게 지속적인 창업활동 여건을 보장하는 사업이다. 성백섭 단장은 “저희는 대학 내·외부의 전문가로부터 맞춤형 멘토 지도를 통해 창업아이디어와 우수기술을 발굴해 창업 활성화를 지원하고 있습니다. 또한 공통창업 실무교육, 창업사업화, 모의창업의 과정과 창업 및 후속지원을 통해 준비된 창업가를 육성하는 데에 주력하고 있습니다”라고 밝혔다.

풍부한 창업지원 인프라
조선대학교는 ‘산학협력의 생산교육’이라는 건립 이념 아래 다양한 창업지원 프로그램을 진행해 왔다. 창업관련 국책사업 수주를 통해 우수한 인프라를 확충해온 것은 물론, 광주지역 최대의 창업동아리를 운영하고, 2008년에는 광주전남지역 최초로 대규모 창업보육센터 확장사업을 추진했다. 

이 같은 인프라를 바탕으로 사업단은 체계적인 창업지원 시스템을 구축하고 사업을 추진하고 있다. 사업단은 모집과정을 거친 예비창업자 가운데 우수창업아이템을 선정하고 기술창업자를 위한 필수교육과정을 실시한다. 이후 예비창업자와 TEC/BIZ멘토 간의 매칭 및 코칭을 실시하며, 시제품 개발비 지원 및 제작, 관련기술 특허출원 등의 창업아이템 고도화 단계를 거치게 된다. 이 과정을 거친 창업자들은 창업사업계획서를 작성하는 한편, 창업경진대회 등의 참가를 통한 창업아이템 타당성을 검증받게 된다. 최종적으로 선정된 아이템에 대해서는 법인 설립 등의 창업 지원과 조선대 기술지주회사와의 연계 사업화를 지원하게 된다.

사업단은 또한 예비창업자들을 대상으로 한 창업교육강의, 전문가 멘토단과의 간담회, 창업사례특강, 성공CEO 초청강좌 등의 행사를 진행해왔으며, ‘2014 창조경제실현 산학협력 페스티벌’을 통해 대내외적 유기적인 협력관계를 구축하는 한편, 시제품개발향상을 위한 맞춤형 실습교육도 시행해왔다. 성 단장은 “조선대는 이노폴리스캠퍼스 기술창업 육성사업을 통해 창업을 선도하는 대학으로서 창조경제에 부응하게 될 것입니다. 검증 프로그램을 통해 우수한 창업아이템을 정부 R&D 사업, 엔젤투자 및 특구사업과 연계할 수 있도록 지원할 계획입니다”라고 밝혔다. 

창업은 단지 열정과 꿈만으로 달성할 수 있는 손쉬운 일이 아니다. 아이디어를 실체화시키고 이를 사업화하는 데에는 수많은 연구와 창업에 대한 이해가 동반되어야 한다. 성장 가능한 꿈을 지원하고 실현시키기 위한 지원을 아끼지 않고 있는 조선대학교 이노폴리스캠퍼스 사업단이 제2의 스티브 잡스, 마크 주커버그를 배출하게 될 날을 기대해 본다.

Actualizing excellent ideas into business
The development of idea is the first stage for those who want to start a business. The problem is that many of them do not know how to actualize their idea and to run the business. For this, Chosun University's Innopolis Campus Team is providing the foundation for start-ups to fulfil their dream. Appointed for Innopolis Campus Promotion Project by the Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning and Innopolis in 2014, the team is carrying out various programs from finding excellent start-up items to promotion with the support fund of $400,000 for 2 years. The project is to provide sustainable environment for students, graduates and the public through related infrastructure. Sung says "we provide customized support for start-ups in cooperation with specialists in the field as well as follow-up support which includes field training, commercialization and mock start-up."

Providing sustainable start-up support through related infrastructure
Under the slogan of 'industry-academic cooperative production education', Chosun University has been carrying out various start-up support programs. The university has expanded excellent infrastructure through securing related national projects, is running the largest scale start-up club and launched a large scale start-up center promotion project for the first time in the province in 2008. 

The team provides related trainings and programs, connects candidate start-ups to TEC/BIZ mentoring, supports development & production fund, and helps them acquire patents. Start-ups, on the other hand, submit business plan which will go through screening at various related competitions and if chosen in the finalists they will receive a professional support to start their business. The programs include lectures, mentoring, meeting with industry specialists, successful start-up cases, CEO lectures and industry-academic festivals. These programs have been of great help to strengthen organic cooperation between start-ups and the industry. Sung says "Chosun University will take a great part to actualize creative economy through innovative start-up support programs. We will keep providing our unsparing effort for start-ups to be connected with related projects through national R&D projects, angel investment and special business zone projects." Starting a business not only requires one's passion and dream but professional support and Chosun University's Innopolis Campus Team will be the frontier in the field.
