Improving university system by specializing regional industry
Local university specializing project is a Ministry of Education's representative project that requires a long support period and a big budget. Chosun University was appointed for 3 projects last year and has been exerting its effort in fostering talented students. One of the project teams is the Regional Based Convergence Materials and Components System Specialized Team and the team has carried out building systematic curriculum to promote industry-demanded talented students in the field. Lee says "we are fostering industry-demanded talented students in the region through our various programs that cover from energy, environment, life, IT, electronic appliances, cutting edge parts and components to venture start-ups." The team is participated by the students from four departments of materials science and engineering, optical technology engineering, industrial engineering and aerospace engineering, and is providing practical programs relating to the field including light parts & components, energy convergent & save parts, car-machine production base, smart electronic appliances, convergent mold, bio-medical components, structural & functional ceramics, marine equipment parts and metallic processing parts.
Fostering talented students who will lead the activation of the industry
To promote ABC (Active, Business-minded, Convergent thinking) students, the team has built 4 core strategies which are 'expanding self-initiated convergent majors', 'securing the quality of training through competition and open policy', 'securing quality jobs through industry-academic cooperation' and 'building competitive infrastructure'. Lee says "those students who went through industry-demanded training in their major or convergent majors will grow to have work ability through a 3 month internship and capstone design. We are also carrying out recruitment camp program and family-company program to provide more options for students to choose quality jobs." The team plans to achieve 57% (regional 65%) of employment rate by 2020 and to foster 100 of ABC type students per year in the hope of raising the team the best in the province. For this, they will keep investing in securing more full-time teachers and building industry-academic cooperation system as well as developing certification channel.
