박근혜 대통령, 한국라이온스연합회 대표단과 간담회, 제70회 식목일 기념식수
박근혜 대통령이 지난 달 8일 오후 우리나라의 대표적인 봉사단체인 ‘한국 라이온스(LIONS)연합회’ 대표단을 청와대로 초청하여 간담회를 가졌다. 한국 라이온스(LIONS)연합회는 자유(Liberty)와 지성(Intelligence), 우리국가의 안전(Our Nation’s Safety)등 LIONS 정신에 기반해 활발하게 봉사활동을 펼치고 있는 단체다. 박 대통령은 간담회를 통해 그동안 국가발전을 위해 힘써온 라이온스 회원들의 노고를 격려하고, 라이온스 회원들에게 경제 살리기와 일자리창출, 국가혁신, 국민통합을 위해 더욱 매진해 줄 것을 당부하고 협조를 구했다.

오늘 간담회는 김병기 라이온스 연합회장이 박근혜 대통령에게 ‘한국 라이온스연합회’ 8만 회원들의 무한한 신뢰와 감사의 마음을 담은 감사패를 전달하는 것으로 시작되었다. 박 대통령은 “사랑과 봉사로 우리사회 발전에 기여하고 계신 라이온스 리더 여러분을 뵙게 되어서 참으로 기쁘게 생각합니다.”라며, 라이온스연합회 대표단을 환영하고 라이온스가 ‘We Serve, 우리는 봉사한다’라는 슬로건 아래에서 그동안 어려움을 겪는 많은 이웃들에게 따뜻한 손길을 펼쳐온 것에 대해 감사의 뜻을 표했다. 어느 곳에든 큰 사고가 일어날 때마다 라이온스 회원들이 현장으로 달려가 봉사를 해온 것을 잘 알고 있다며, 라이온스 회원들의 봉사와 헌신이 ‘국민행복시대’를 만드는 데에 큰 원동력이 될 것으로 생각한다고 밝혔다.

박 대통령은 한국라이온스연합회 대표단에게 “올해가 대한민국의 미래를 위해서 국가를 혁신하고, 경제 재도약의 토대를 쌓을 골든타임이라고 생각합니다.”라고 밝히며 우리 사회발전의 걸림돌이 되고 있는 장애요인들을 극복하고, 과감한 경제혁신을 통해서 30년의 성장기반을 만들어야한다고 말했다.

더불어 박 대통령은 개혁추진과정에서는 갈등과 장애요인이 없을 수 없다며, 라이온스 연합회 회원들의 역할이 중요하다고 밝혔다. ‘Our Nation’s Safety’라는 슬로건 아래 국가를 위한 헌신과 나라사랑의 의지를 펼치고 있는 라이온스 연합회가 지금의 어려움을 피하지 말고, 새로운 희망의 시대를 열어나갈 수 있도록 앞장서 노력해 달라고 당부했다.

광복 70주년 식목일, 나라사랑을 심다
박근혜 대통령은 올해 제70회 식목일을 맞이하여 청와대 경내 녹지원에서 비서실장, 국가안보실장, 경호실장 및 수석비서관, 직원들과 함께 기념식수를 했다. 박 대통령은 취임 이후 매년 식목일에 기념식수를 하며 자연에 대한 각별한 애정을 보여 왔다. 취임 첫해인 2013년에는 경기도 포천시에 위치한 국립수목원에서 토종 구상나무를 심었고, 같은 해 4월 8일에는 풍요를 상징하는 이팝나무를 청와대 경내에 심었다. 더불어 작년에는 수궁터에 정이품송(천연기념물 제103호) 후계목(소나무)을 식재했다.

박근혜 대통령은 올해 광복70주년을 기념하여 애국·애족의 상징인 우리나라꽃 무궁화를 식재하고 나라사랑하는 마음을 되새기는 시간을 가졌다. 박 대통령은 과거 전쟁 등으로 인해 우리나라가 벌거숭이산으로 유명했는데 식목일마다 많은 사람들이 나무를 심고, 10월에는 ‘육림의 날’을 정해 나무가 잘 자랐는지 확인하는 등 모든 국민들이 정성을 가지고 가꾸어 지금은 벌거숭이산이 없다고 말했다. 박 대통령은 앞으로도 좋은 일에는 모두가 마음을 합치면 세계적으로 유명했던 우리나라 벌거숭이산이 푸르게 덮이는 것처럼 모든 일도 그렇게 마음을 합해야 된다면서 어려운 시기일수록 더욱더 마음을 모아야 한다고 강조했다.

President Park invited the officials of Korea Lions Clubs International (LIONS) to Blue House on 8 last month to have a talkfest. LIONS is a Korea's representative volunteer organization acting under the banner of Liberty, Intelligence and Our Nation's Safety. Park encouraged the officials and asked them to keep exerting their effort for the development of national economy and integration. The talkfest was started by the chairman Byeongki Kim of LIONS to present Park an appreciation plaque which contains its 80,000 members of limitless trust and gratitude for Park. Park in response said "I'm pleased to have invited you who have been contributing to the advancement of our society. I warmly welcome the members of LIONS and appreciate your hard work you have been doing under the slogan of 'We Serve'. Park continued that she knows very well that the members of LIONS were always there whenever our society needs help. She added "I regard 2015 as the year of innovating the nation and building a foundation for regeneration of our economies. Therefore, we have to work together to overcome the difficulties and to create a firm foothold for the next 30 years of prosperity. Therefore, the role of LIONS is important to unite the people." Park asked LIONS to take the initiative in opening a new era of hope and harmony. 

Park, planting a commemorative tree for the 70th anniversary of independence
Park planted a commemorative tree in the Green Garden at Blue House on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of independence alongside the Chief Secretary, the Head of National Security, the Chief Officer of the Presidential Security and staff. Park's love of tree is uncommon as she has been planting a tree on Arbor Day every year since inauguration. She planted a Korean fir tree in the Korea National Arboretum in Pocheon in 2013 and a finge tree symbolizing abundance in a garden at Blue House in the same year as well as a pine tree as the succeeding tree of Jeongipum Pine Tree (natural monument 103) in Sugungteo at Blue House last year. This year, Park planted a rose of sharon symbolizing patriotism on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of independence. Park said that many of our mountains were bald due to the Korean War but now they are all turned into green thanks to our people's love of nation and Arbor Day in April and Afforestation Day in October. Park emphasized on the fact that we turned our nature green and likewise we have to work together to build a strong and harmonious nation.
