The World Water Forum, raising the water industry in Kyungpook Province
Kyungpook Province successfully held The 7th World Water Forum 2015 and is raising the water industry in the region. The forum is the biggest water related event in the world and Daegu and Kyungpook co-invited the event for the second time after Japan in Asia. The forum this year brought a significant change to the overall water culture in South Korea. It became the momentum to raise public awareness, government's water industry policies and competitiveness of the domestic water related companies. The forum served as the turning point for us to be a water powerhouse from water shortage nation through our advanced water resource management technology and experience. It opened a way for the regional water industry to develop and the possibility to enter overseas market. There are 11 dams around Nokdong River and numerous national complexes, universities and R&D centers in the province and they are expected to play a significant role to raise the water industry in the region. The Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome asked the governor Kim Kwan-Yong to expand the province's New Community Movement in 5 villages in Ethiopia to national level as well as supporting agricultural equipments and water resource development technologies. Meanwhile, Kim asked the Tajikistanian President Emomali Rahmon to participate in 'Silk Road Gyeongju 2015' August this year. Mr. Rahmon in response said that he would think the invitation positively and send performance groups to Gyeongju. He also asked Kim to launch New Community Movement and agricultural cooperation in Tajikistan. The cooperation between the Province and international organizations including UN, OECD and UN ESCAP is also expected to be strengthened on the occasion of the forum.
Kyungpook's globalization of New Community Movement to expand
The Province announced '3+3 Strategy' as the expanding model of New Community Movement on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Movement and the 5th anniversary of its national holiday appointment. This means that the current pilot project level movement will be promoted to a global level movement. Kim said at the Press Center of the Provincial Government Office Building that "many participated countries in the forum showed a strong interest in the Movement and the officials of international organizations suggested to introduce official support programs for the Movement. Therefore, it is time for us to expand it to global level from pioneering stage. He continued "the Province so far has fostered 3,466 leaders of the Movement in 84 countries in the world. We have created 28 model villages in 10 Asian and African countries which are bearing good fruits." The Province is also planning to make the Movement as a global academic subject. The Movement is listed in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register and the Province will translate the documents into foreign languages and will build New Village Research Institute to network with international organizations. Kim added "South Korea became a nation to support from supported through the Movement. It is now our duty to share what we have achieved with the developing countries."
