한때, 대형 프랜차이즈들의 공세로 일반 제과점들은 큰 위기를 맞이했었다. 상품개발과 마케팅에 수많은 인력과 자본이 투자되는 대형 프랜차이즈에 비해 일반 제과점은 혼자 제빵과 판매, 홍보까지 겸해야 하므로 한계가 있었기 때문이다. 이러한 상황에서 구움(Gu.um)의 선전은 수많은 개인 제과점에 본받을 만한 훌륭한 전형이 되고 있다.

Kim does not do any forms of activities to promote the store because she believes that baking good bread is the best marketing. The popularity of Gu.um actually comes from Kim's passion and sincerity in bread and coffee. Kim continues "passion and sincerity are the words we, Gu.um, pursue. The love we receive from the local residents is the result of this." Meanwhile, Gu.um constantly develops new menus that accommodates each customer's preferred taste. But there is one menu that they hardly change and it is 'Cream Puff Gourmet Butter & Bean Jam Bread'. It is praised for its combination of butter and bean jam and numerous people already wrote their fantastic experience of the bun on their blogs. Kim added that it is so popular that many people want it to be delivered by online orders. 

Never lose your heart 
Many independent bakeries once faced a crisis to close their doors due to the major companies' domination of the market. This was mainly because the former had a limited capacity to deal with the latter's commercial power. In this term, Gu.um can be a role model for those who will never lose their heart. Kim says ""Stick to your guns!", I would like to say. If you plume yourself on a moment of success you are to lose your customers eventually. Therefore, never lose your overflowing heart you had when you first open your own store and cherish it till the last." Meanwhile, Kim wishes to share her heart and know-how with other people through a franchise business to grow together.
