Life that reflects and takes the initiative of one's inner side
The conditions of being happiness that is delivered to us
Professor Jiyoon Lee

Every moment never comes back if we miss like this
Lee says "grown ups usually say when they look back on their hometown: "I can picture everything in detail." And I'm not different from them. My hometown was like a playground where I could swim and did various things." Lee added that she often reflects herself and improves her mind through getting closer to nature. While strolling around mountain temple and mineral spring, she never lost her smile on her face and I (reporter) felt how much she learns from the nature and also empties it. Lee continues "I start the day by watching the sunrise most of the time. I look back on many things which we lost in our busy modern life. Many of us want more and we might never have emptied our desire once in our life time I guess?" If we are just to lead a hectic life without any introspection and purification, it means we are losing opportunities to reflect on ourselves. Lee assured that that kind of life can never make oneself to be the protagonist on the stage. There are many valuable things we cannot buy with money such as a branch of the tree that implies winter is nigh or fluffy white clouds that rings spring is nigh. Lee says it is really regretful if we miss all of these because we are busy. Like she said every moment never comes back if we miss like this.

What is it that we have lost or forgot?
"Where would you like to walk around now?" she asked. I said 'Banghwa Suryujeong (a pavilion)'. It was built as part of Hwaseong Fortress (No.3 of the historic sites) in 1794 on a stiff rock and its beauty is seconde to none. I asked "You just told me about losing. Does that mean we lose something we are born with or our possession?" She answered "Yes. Most human beings just live to fill their desire without realizing who they truly are. They don't live their own lives but the lives that others want them to live. In other words, they don't live their fate and destiny." Lee has lived in Suwon for a long time. She said that if she lived in Seoul it would have been difficult to raise her children (currently studying abroad). She continues "The professor of Graduate School of Education at Harvard University Howard Garner published multiple intelligences theory in 1983. I educated my children in accordance with that theory. I wanted my children to have various educational options like I did thanks to the environment and luck I had. I wanted to show them how happily there were born in the nature. I can picture them walking back home from school along the fortress. How many places can there be where children go to school through one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites?" It made me think about thankfulness for a while. She seemed to enjoy every moment from the leaves dancing with the wind to new shoots of plants in spring.

Birth is given in prayer and education starts from mom's womb and lap
When asked about her educational philosophy Lee said "All about education can be explained by whole-person education. As a household is the foundation of a nation, education starts from mom's womb and lap. Cliches like 'you have to bow well', 'don't do bad things', or 'this is right thing to do' are not that helpful advice for children. Parents or teachers need to show themselves how to act and make it a way of life so that children can naturally follow." Lee spent her childhood under the influence of confucianism. Her parents were a bit conservative but their sharing and generosity was a great inspiration for her. As a result, it is only natural for Lee to share and serve. Lee says "The word 'habit' means to make the word 'practice' be familiar with the body. It's not about you've decided to do this or that but you naturally do it without even knowing yourself doing it. And it starts with love. Children who grew up by receiving love through physical contact with their parents are likely to have more happiness and this lasts even after they grew up to be adults. This means that one's characteristics are formed in early childhood and if an adult is lack of this love, she must cure her inner self. In other words, we have to change our mind first to lead a happier life. If I keep reflecting on myself I can naturally live a life that can contribute to mankind. Especially if I pray every moment and every day I can naturally put my love into practice for those who know me or my children." Lee added that she believes in whole person education rather than in teaching by rote or education to raise one's profile. She pursues her happiness in that belief.

Courage that can make you choose rest rather than a hectic schedule
Developing herself whenever time and motivation are given is Lee's another habit. She was more interested in challenge and adventure when she was a student. Lee says "It is really difficult for me to pursue something if I'm not happy. I rarely regretted in my life because I did what I wanted to do most of the time. Currently, I'm preparing to publish the world's first special book of my poetry 'Wangi Jiyoon Autobiography (She Expects Gender Equality)' and 'Happiness Consulting' earl this year, and planning to travel to Europe - America - Oceania - Africa - Asia for photo works and aeremia geomancy research. I've been doing Zen meditation for a long time and it is my motto and hope to thank the nature and live my life." Like we cannot see outside if we are trapped in inside, Lee emphasized on taking care of oneself to be happy. In that terms she enjoys traveling as a way of reflecting herself. It is really brave thing to do if we drop a hectic schedule in our daily life and have a break especially when we are sad and distressed. This is what I learned from Lee.
