President Park Geun-Hye met ‘Yamani’ who is a chief of Saudi nuclear power energy

President Park attended ‘KOREA-SAUDI BUSINESS FORUM’ and ‘KOREA-SAUDI SUMMIT’ and kept discussing on the cooperation and collaboration between two countries as for the future energy resources such as unclear power and new regeneration energy development and agreement with showing her interest to that country. Subsequently, she met ‘Yamani’ who is a chief of Saudi nuclear power energy and asked him to support Korea to be able to take part in upbringing policy in Saudi Arabia for the long term.

* K.A.CARE, King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy: according to an imperial order by the late King Abdullah, it was established for Saudi Arabia’s nuclear and regeneration energy policy department

President Park shook her hands with her entourage to each person and smiled at them as well and later, she took a photo with them. Later, she talked about their nuclear – renewable energy policy is really successful with showing her respect and appreciated their concern about Korea’s nuclear power plant several times. Besides, she asked about active supports from them after having ‘KOREA-SAUDI SMART CO-PEARTNERSHIP’ and manpower training MOU as soon as possible and she said to work things out with a good result out of business conferences afterwards so that the SMART cooperation would be accelerated.

SMART joint partnership & manpower training MOU
- Putting the base of the world first Korean SMART original nuclear power plant export -

Korea’s Science, ICT and Future planning minister and the chief of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy signed up the SMART joint partnership and manpower training MOU from ‘KOREA-SAUDI SUMMIT’.

* SMART joint partnership: they are inspecting the stand-by business by joint investment from two countries and building up SMART nuclear power plant second sector in Saudi and later, they export the technology to the third countries in time.
➝ manpower training: supporting to create a new department a nuclear engineering in Saudi University, Korea unclear researchers – between K.A.CARE, building up the manpower training center, performance for international co-study between KAIST and Saudi University etc.

With that backup supports, we can make an opportunity to commercialize by establishing the ‘SMART nuclear plant’, which is made up by Korea’s own technology and at the same time, we can also take the market first of the global small-medium nuclear reactor when trying to export with Saudi Arabia together as to be expected in the future. SMART means Korean small and middle sized nuclear reactor and both countries agreed to build up the SMART unclear plants at least, two, in Saudi. When the second period starts, the contract money would be up 2 billion dollar and it will be the first small and middle sized nuclear reactor export example in the world. For that, a chief Yamani answered they would try to show some results as quickly as possible. President Park mentioned that Korea has a ‘quick, quick culture’ and she heard that Saudi also has ‘yalla, yalla culture’ and then, the attendees were laughing out. And then, she said there is lots of potential energy for sunlight cooperation, especially in terms of regeneration energy between two countries, so she asked for their consideration and help so that Korean sunlight companies having a high technology to have a market resource in Saudi. A chief Yamani showed his sympathy and said, “We need technology transport, manpower training, and service cooperation to keep up the sustainable relationship between two countries on nuclear power issue” and he expressed to be glad that is included in the MOU this time.
