Realizing ‘Nobless oblige’, which is a volunteer work
“Good deed is a value of making neighborhood as one, not only sharing”

Prof. Lee Joo-Il of administration department, Gyeonggi University / President of the Onyang-Cheongju Hot spring annexed Research Institute / Head of Asan Rotary club

People who are aiming for their life goal are always diligent. They try to build the condition to help, go to help and study for how to be more helpful for other people, so they don’t have hesitation to do something. A person is who has been working for strangers’ happiness diligently rather than his won fame and money and then being satisfied with his journey of life. At this time, here is a life of Prof. Lee Joo-Il who has been helping people all the time without saying it and his life is completed by his many busy volunteers’ calling and wisdom.

Proving the professionalism of volunteering and realizing the social value with the name, Rotary
What is a true volunteer work in the meaning? He acquired the doctorial degree from ‘Activation of the Hot Spring Industry using Boyang Hoot Spring’ based on the data of Onyang-Cheongju Hot spring annexed Research Institute, which is he is running and teaching students twice per week as a professor at Gyeonggi University. By that, it deserves to look into his activity as a sample. He is an educator, CEO and researcher. And, he is a professional volunteer that everybody accepts that. Such Prof. Lee gained many awards like Korea Global Leadership Awards and Beyond-Oneself Award by Rotary International (RI) in 2013 and Excellence Award in local society development department of International Peace Media Awards in 2014 and this is quite meaningful since he defined the concept of volunteering newly at any rate.

Prof. Lee was the best contributor to make the rotary club be the excellent club in 2010 while he was in charge of the 16th president of Onyang central road rotary club. He grew Korean cabbages for himself and made KIMJANG and then shared them with neglected home because he didn’t want his true volunteering for the showing that could be a rich person’s fake work and led to support for moving vehicles and building a group self-support work place and then he made a friendship and relationship. Also, he is leading to give his talent with making a passionate speech as a prison correction member. Besides, his good deed doesn’t care about places or nationalities. As a member of rotary club, he provided clean water to Malaysia areas and he even spent his money in paying for hospital fee and flight tickets and scholarship for a woman in Mongol who were struggling with breast cancer and made her recovered eventually. This became a role model for others.

He didn’t stop there and made a volunteering group called ‘Community of loving Sinukeu’ and wants to be remembered as a neighbor who takes a care of other neighbors. Like that, his fame was accumulated and piled up as time went by, therefore, he has nicknames like a father of volunteering and trusty big brother who anyone can trust and rely on as an aura, so he could gain lots of fame from many awards.
“Volunteering work is not a thing that we are aware of. We have to think of others as their sides and ponder and then try to make a realization, and then our neighbors would be happy. The reason why I feel happier especially from volunteering is because I can make a foot-hold for another volunteering work.” His volunteering footage is endless. He is making some programs for North Korean defectors and made MOU agreement with Choongnam Food Bank Association for holding an event to give food for nothing, which was realistic supporting for the local people. As for intelligent volunteering, his concern is ongoing. As for the 9th president of Korea Freedom Union Federation of Choongnam, he has held the photography contest for the young students to plant a sense of belonging to this country and patriotism as well. Furthermore, he established ‘Whistle Choir’ be an audition for talented women among North Korean defectors.

Prof. Lee is saying that volunteering needs a study and an idea. “I used to make a thesis about using closed schools after studying in particular for Asan city. Also, we should not be lazy for preserving our nature environment like helping our neighbors because of handing down better world for our next generation and for making better world with our neighbors. To do that, I think we have to use what we learnt and experienced and even background and knowledge and this is why my way of volunteering is estimated certainly from people.”
Prof. Lee published a book, <42 things to do before dying, being not too late> last year to let people know his creed. His 42 maxim is composed of 12 things for not regretting past life, 9 things to keep in life, 8 things for preparing for the silver life without regrets and 5 things for happy family and 8 things for living with success. He is still planning to establish 10 schools in developing countries in Southeast Asia and being ready to go for medical volunteering work in Bana tour for 8 days from March 24th. Like this, his competitive professional volunteer, Prof. Lee’s passion for doing volunteering is like a never dried spring.
