According to the statistics of Immigration Office, Korean's overseas travel has been increasing by 8% a year since 2012. It recorded 16 million people last year and more than half were between 20s and 40s. However, despite the increasing number of young travelers, the designs of travel carrier bags were neglected overall due to its emphasis on practicality. A stylish travel product provider Lucky Factory, which recently opened an offline store 'Lucky Planet' in Noon Square, Myeong-dong, is the talk of the town.

Yoon majored in Clothes Design at university, started to work as a reporter in a fashion magazine after graduation, and jumped into the travel bag business based on her experience of traveling. Yoon realized one day 10 years ago that she could doll up when traveling but she had to use unsophisticated monotonous travel bags. Back then, most travel bags were made by moderate licensed brands which could not satisfy the tastes of people and the related manufacturing factories in Korea were disappeared.

Yoon went to China and brought the fabrics to Korea and started an online shopping mall in 2006 with the concept of making stylish travel bags aimed at young people. Yoon subsequently received special selling events from several shopping malls and she started with 300 products which soon became ten times in reservation only. In 2008, Yoon sold out all her products in a TV home shopping network and was chosen as the best brand. 

"I started the business because I liked making stylish travel bags but I didn't know there was that much demand. I like traveling and I wanted to suggest something to my customers. I finally started to develop the bags by putting in patterns and logos in the intention of selling them online."

The existing travel bags are emphasized on sturdiness and practicality but lack in the value of its collectability. It was ok if it was strong and had enough storage space but Yoon revolted against the norm as she thought that a travel bag can be a fashionable item. Lucky Planet provides various travel goods from large bags, shoulder bags, cross bags to pouches, passport cases, covers, name tags and travel goods for children and daily use. They obtained licenses for Hello Kitty in 2011 and Warner Bros in 2013 to push forward the brand marketing in earnest. The price is also reasonable; premium products loaded with aluminum handle and double wheels around $110 and popular general products around $50. 

The most popular of them all is 'Journey to the Galaxy' which has space and spaceman patterns. The products are made of polycarbonate and is sturdy and strong and the price ranges from $89 to $124 for the largest size. Clutches, mobile phone cases and passport cases are also lined up in the same design.

Upgrading the styles based on the top quality

Lucky Store has been in the state of pop-up stores in  Dongdaemun, Namdaemun, Gwanghwamun Hottracks, Galleria, and Kosney in Suwon and Ewha Womans University branches but they finnally opened an exclusive store in Noon Square, Myeong-dong in December. Yoon, who has been observing the tourist market for 10 years, says that the market has not much changed. 

"If you have $200 to $300 you can go traveling and the age is getting lower. People were looking forward to summer holiday in the past but we can travel at the weekend nowadays. Many online brands were appeared but with only price competition. Some of the travel bag specialized brands are well settled but the trendy product market is beginning now."

Lucky Planet was received well at the exhibitions in Las Vegas and Europe in 2009 and Yoon said that she will focus on 'branding' under the slogan 'Be Stylish'. 

"I started with travel bags but have now a goal to make it as a total travel shop. I want to grow it to be a global company." Power Korea hopes Yoon will make her dream come true.
