Korea and the UK to work together to create safe cyber environment
Yanghee Choi, the Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning and the British Embassy in Seoul held The 3rd Korea-Britain Cyber Security Work Shop at 19 last month to strengthen the cooperation in cyber securities. The information protection specialists of the two countries from the government and industry-academic cooperation have been participating through work shops since 2013 to share the trend on the cyber security policies and infringement, and they discussed on cooperation plans.

The first work shop was at KISA in Korea on 16 October 2013, the second at London University on 21 March 2014, and this year was about the protection of IoT, the technology which the people, objects and data are connected. They announced 'IoT Information Protection Policy' and discussed on cooperation plans. In addition, professor Heungyeol Yeom of Soon Chun Hyang University gave a presentation on 'Development Direction of Information Protection Assessment' and the specialists share the both countries' certification systems and model cases, and discussed on cyber threat, joint-response against infringement. Sungju Kang, the head of the Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning's Information Strategy Department said "we signed a MOU of infringement accident team with the UK last year and this year's work shop will serve as a momentum to secure the cooperation between the countries. We will keep cooperating to protect IoT and national infrastructure."

Haeyoung Kim of the British Embassy in Seoul's Science Department said "this year's work shop is third time after president Park visited the UK last year and it will contribute to the development of the two countries' cyber security cooperation." 


Science High Schools hold R&E/I&D Festival
Yanghee Choi, the Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning and Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity held 2014 Science High School R&E/I&D (creative research) Festival on 19 last month at KAIST. The festival was held to share the achievement of the research activities of the talented students, and to exchange it. The event was participated by 500 related students and they presented their achievements in the 97 research subjects in the 7 fields including math, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, information, and integration & I&D. 

R&E, Research & Education‧I&D, and Imagination & Development are the research activities for the students to choose a subject to improve the learning skills on the advice of teachers or professors. It is one of the main activities of science high schools. The Ministry has been supporting R&E‧I&D to expand students' participation in research activities based on the importance of science study and experience activities of natural science and engineering specialists.

The students presented their research achievement through a poster and the winners were awarded from the Minster and the chairman of Creative Foundation. The Ministry and foundation expected that the event would serve as a momentum to share the students' experience and they will keep supporting them to foster talented students in the science technology field.
