쁘띠프랑스를 만나기, 한 시간 이전부터 행복해졌던 시간
‘한때는 어린아이였음을 기억하지 못했던 어른들에게’

무소유의 저자 법정 스님은 세상에서 ‘가장 잘 쓴 책’으로 논어와 함께 생텍쥐페리의 어린왕자를 꼽았다고 한다. 누구나 한번쯤은 접했었던, 그러나 읽을수록(나이대에 따라 다르게 와닿는 문장으로 인해) 몸만 커버린 채, 여전히 아이에 머물러 있는 어른들을 다시금 성숙하게 만드는 이야기. 소위 ‘어른들을 위한 동화’라고 불리는 어린왕자는 곧 쁘띠프랑스의 모태가 되었고 입구를 들어서자마자 한쪽 켠에는 생텍쥐페리 기념관을 만나볼 수 있었다. 각박하게 살고 있는 현대인들에게 순수한 감성을 되돌려줌과 동시에 교육적이면서도 감성적인 장소를 지향하는 곳. 설레임 속, 가평의 쁘띠프랑스를 찾았다. 

그 곳이 우리를 길들인다면
쁘띠프랑스의 시작을 말하기에 앞서, 한홍섭 회장의 개인적인 취향을 제외시키기는 힘들 것이다. 제법 규모가 큰 중소기업의 CEO로서 사업차 우연히 들렀던 유럽이었지만 그는 단숨에 프랑스 문화에 빠져들었고 그렇게 사업을 하면서 모았던 돈과 혼신의 노력을 이곳에 쏟았다. 또한, 쁘띠프랑스의 모티브가 된 곳은 파리에서 남쪽으로 200km 떨어진 오를레앙지방이며 기후와 경치가 좋고 특히, 오래된 성과 현대인의 별장이 많은 지방이라고 한다. 그 곳은 프랑스 내에서도 아름답기로 유명한 곳이라고 할 수 있는데 오를레앙지방만의 아름다운 모습과 삶의 여유를 프랑스에 가지 않고도(부분적으로나마) 보고 느낄 수 있다면 좋을 것이라는 한 회장의 생각이 곧 쁘띠프랑스의 시초가 된 셈이다. 

그러한 이유로 쁘띠프랑스에서는 서두에 이야기한 생텍쥐페리 기념관을 비롯, 오를레앙지방의 고택과 오르골 소리를 감상할 수 있는 오르골 하우스, 유럽의 다양한 골동품을 감상하고 구입할 수 있는 골동품 전시관, 유럽의 생활상을 들여다볼 수 있는 ‘유럽 인형의 집’ 등에서 유럽의 정취를 느낄 수 있는 다양한 공연과 행사를 접할 수 있으며 그 밖에 프랑스대사관에서 제공한 영화나 애니메이션도 수시로 상영하고 있다. 이러한 노력으로 인하여 어린 왕자의 여우가 이야기 했듯, 쁘띠프랑스가 사람들의 마음을 길들이기 시작한데에는 그리 오랜 시간이 걸리진 않았다.

교육적이면서도 아름다운
다시 말해, 쁘띠프랑스는 프랑스의 한 마을을 그대로 옮겨놓은 것 같은 테마파크이자, 아이 어른 할 것 없이 동심을 자극할 수 있는 그림 같은 곳이라 말할 수 있을 것이다. 가장 최근 어린왕자 별빛축제를 여는 등 전시부문에 있어, 직접 체험하고 즐길 수 있는 요소들을 보강해 나가고 있기에 장차 프랑스 및 유럽의 문화를 체험하고 즐기는 엔터테인먼트 테마파크로서의 역할을 해낼 것으로 비춰졌다. 

한홍섭 회장의 쁘띠프랑스 운영 철칙은 명확하다. 그것은 바로 ‘국내 최초로 교육적이면서도 아름다운 장소’를 지향하는 것이다. 쁘띠프랑스는 수만가지 소품, 프랑스 전통 가옥, 전시관, 극장, 산책로, 조각품 등 어느 하나 한 회장의 손길이 닿지 않은 부분이 없을 정도이며 많은 이들이 접할 수 있는 체험요소는 총 100회 이상 프랑스를 오갔던 그의 열정과 노력에 있었다. 

한 때는 어린아이였음을 인정하는 시간들
다른 곳에서는 볼 수 없는 국내의 최초만을 고집한 탓에 지금의 쁘띠프랑스는 그 특이성과 더불어 문화적인 측면에서 많은 이들에게 어필이 되고 있다. 특히, 눈으로 보고 느끼는 것의 감흥이 쉽게 사라질 것을 우려하여 내실 있는 소프트웨어를 충실히 개발하려 했던 점도 상당히 눈에 띄이는 장점 중 하나다. 이러한 장점들 덕분인지, 평일임에도 불구하고 쁘띠프랑스의 내부는 많은 관광객들로 붐비는 모습이었다.

다소 이국적인 겨울풍경을 배경으로 추억 만들기에 여념이 없는 그들은 마치 한동안 잊고 지냈던, 혹은 어렸던 시절의 순수함 그 자체였다고 표현할 수 있겠다. 쁘띠프랑스를 만나기, 한 시간 이전부터 이미 행복해져 있던 그들이다.

It is known that the Korean monk Beopjeong's book 'Non-possession' is regarded as one of the best books that can get along with the Confucian Analects and The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Everybody might have read about the prince and the story made many grown ups to be mature. So called 'the children's story for adults' became the matrix of Petit France and you can see the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Museum as soon as you enter the place. Korea's top bilingual magazine Power Korea has visited Petit France in Gapyeong County and learned about the educational and emotional place.

If the place tames us
Before we talk about Petit Franc we must talk about the CEO Hongsup Han who used to be the CEO of a small but strong company. He visited Franc by chance and instantly fell in love with it. When he came back he poured all he earned and all his passion and efforts in here. 200km from Paris, Orléans was the inspiration for Han who was enchanted by its beautiful landscape, old castles and modern vacation homes. Han thought if he could move this place to Korea and thus began the history of Petit France.

The place has Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Museum, Orgel House where you can see ancient houses of Orléans and listen to the sound of orgel, Antique Room in which you can see the various European antiques, and European Doll House. They hold a variety of events, performance, plays and movies provided by the French Embassy in Korea. Like the fox says in the story, it did not take much time for Petit France to tame the visitor's mind.

Beautiful and educational
Petit France is an Orléans-like picturesque theme Park that stimulates child's mind. They have recently held The Little Prince Star Festival and other various exhibitions so that people can experience the French and European cultures. For this reason, Petit France is expected to play a big role in introducing new entertainment as a theme park.

Han's management philosophy is clear to build the Korea's first educational yet beautiful place. Petit Franc has tens of thousands of props, traditional French houses, exhibition halls, theaters, trails, and sculptures which are the results of Han's visit to France for more than 100 times. 

The times that appreciate the fact that they once were children
Petit France appeals to many in terms of its cultural side and uniqueness. They are also developing softwares to keep the enjoyment rolling when the real experience is finished. Thanks to this effort, the inside of Petit France gets crowded even in the week days. While people were making a new memory, they seemed to go back to the age of innocence. They were already happy 1 hour before we visited.
