Hope and dream for children through football academy

Building Global Mission Football Academy for cultural exchange with South Sudan

The Juchanyang Church Education Hall in Pyeongnae-dong, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do runs a youth football team Namyangju FC and they have their own dormitory for the players unique in the city. Youth football teams have been active and keep increasing their numbers since 2002 World Cup and Korean people expect them to produce talents for the national team, K-League and even an international football star like Jisung Park. Korea's top bilingual magazine Power Korea has met Namyangju FC Football Center's chief director Seungdo Lee who is doing his best to make a world level football academy.

Lee pours everything he has for Namyangju FC Youth Football Team

Taking responsibility for the children from football to personality

For some reason, Lee could not stay with his parents when he was a child. He joined the football team in order to attend the elementary school on the benefit of scholarship for talented sports-boy. When he moved on to middle school he was active in the teams such as boxing club and musical band as there was no football team. He also played in the military band when in the army. He was thinking to be a musician when he was discharged from the military service but the clergyman who he met in the nursery facilities opened him a different way. The clergyman was trying to build a church when Lee's father had a car accident. He was touched by his son's passion and donated the settlement money of $60,000 to building the church despite he could not recover from the accident. To make his father's hospital fee, Lee started to work as an accompanist day and night and gave music lessons for children. He eventually fell ill from overwork and was diagnosed with acute diabetes, exhaustion and anemia. But this became an opportunity for Lee to start sports again. Supported by Namyangju city, Lee founded Namyangju FC. The team is consisted of the 100 first class players (U10?12?15?18) and 100 club players from 20 students in each year between second to sixth graders among five elementary schools in the city. Lee and his 20 staff are responsible for training and personality education of the children

University level system and football skill to be role model

Cooperation proposals from organizations which share the same goal

The reason Lee introduced a systematic training to the team is because he encountered with the problems that the Korean physical education has. The Korean children have to give twice the efforts to reach a certain level because they have to carry out the academic requirements such as language and math alongside football. Lee hopes that the children of his team will see further to university level over elementary, middle and high school. There are many children who are interested in football but the environment(especially the cost) does not satisfy their expectations. We need to create the foundation and provide information about their future career so that they do not give up and carry on their passion within the field. This cannot be done by Lee alone and that is why Lee appeals to people and companies from various walks of life and field to support. Lee said "even if children have a dream, they are likely to be in despair when they reach the senior year in high school because they have not received systematic consultation about their career. However, they already have good skills as football players and if they can achieve a certain level of foreign language they can go to Europe or China where there are good scholarship and sponsorship and then come back to Korea to be active as the manager of school football teams. This will contribute to the development of Korean football."

Lee tried to find a way for the children to carry on their career to university. As a result, Lee could receive positive responses from several universities and churches who willingly want to cooperate. Lee's goal is to participate in The 2016 University League.

Global Sports Missionary Training Institute opens in March for cultural exchange between Korea and South Sudan and the world

Hope and dream for the children of the world through football

Lee, with the help of the missionary Heungse Im in South Sudan, Africa, is preparing to open Global Sports Missionary Training Institute through Global Mission Football Academy to fulfill his passion. Both institute and academy will promote the children as professional missionary football trainers and support football missionary activities such as multicultural football fatigue duty so that the children in Africa can train in Korea. Also the vice minister of Culture and Youth Sports in South Sudan Peter Baptist and the head of the Korean Community visited Namyangju FC and Global Mission Football Academy last July. Im will take the chief director's role and Lee the principal of Global Mission Football Academy and the academy has been approved to run Global Football Training Course, University Course and General Missionary Course and will start recruiting players from March next year. Lee plans to open one football academy in each city in South Sudan to give hope and dream for the children and he is encouraging churches and organizations to participate. Power Korea wishes Lee every success.
