멀티하이브리드 공법에 의한 친환경 음식물처리기 ‘다이손’

아파트마다 양복을 차려 입은 남성들이 손에 하나씩 음식물쓰레기 봉투를 들고 엘리베이터를 타는 모습은 이제는 너무도 익숙한 아침 풍경이 되었다. 쾌쾌한 냄새를 풍기며 삽시간에 세균을 번식시키는 음식물쓰레기는 비단 한 가정만의 골칫거리가 아니라 막대한 혈세를 쏟아 붓고 있는 정부와 가속화되는 환경오염으로 고통받는 지구의 당면 과제로 떠오르고 있다. 국내에서 발생하는 음식물쓰레기는 2010년도 기준으로 하루 평균 1만4천여 톤이며 국민 1인당 음식물쓰레기 발생량은 0.28kg으로 선진국에 비해 월등히 높은 수치를 나타낸다. 이는 전체 쓰레기 발생량의 28%를 육박하는 수치로 정부가 연간 음식물쓰레기 처리에 사용하는 비용만 18조원을 훌쩍 넘는다. 물론 음식물 쓰레기 종량제 이후 미비한 성과들이 도출되고 있지만 더욱 근본적인 해결책이 필요한 시점이다. 이에 ㈜다이손의 문종기 대표를 만나 음식물쓰레기 처리에 관한 새로운 해법을 찾아본다.

여성들이 원하는 깔끔한 주방 만들기의 첫 단계는 ‘다이손’

문종기 대표는 2001년에 한국형 음식물분쇄기 개발에 착수하여 수많은 시행착오 끝에 2008년 한국음식문화에 적합한 음식물분쇄기 개발에 성공하여 특허를 출원하였으며, 2010년도에 다수의 제품 특허를 등록하는 등 다년간 미생물을 이용한 자연친화적인 음식물쓰레기 분쇄기 개발에 매진해 왔다. 2010년 상호를 다이손으로 변경하고, 2012년에는 용인으로 공장을 확장 이전한 후 법인으로 전환하여 본격적으로 다이손의 음식물분쇄기를 보급해 왔다. 현재는 DS-66이라는 모델명으로 기본형, 고급형, 최고급형, 일체형인 DS-100이 출시된 상태다. “주방용 음식물분쇄기를 제품화하기까지 정말 많은 시행착오를 거쳐야만 했습니다. 하지만 누군가는 꼭 해내야 할 일이었기에 묵묵히 제 자리를 지키며 순수 국내 기술진들의 열정을 모아 제품을 출시할 수 있게 되었습니다.” 

다이손의 음식물분쇄기는 지금까지 다수의 특허를 획득해 왔으며, 한국화학융합시험연구원으로부터 KC인증과 환경부로부터 2013-8, 2013-49호를 인증 받았다. 다이손의 멀티하이브리드 공법에 의한 주방용 음식물분쇄기는 기존의 음식물처리기에 비해 매우 간편한 사용법을 자랑한다. 싱크대 배수구에 영구모터를 장착한 분쇄기를 설치한 후, 물을 틀고 스위치를 켜면 음식물쓰레기를 넣은 지 10초 만에 모두 개수대를 빠져나간다. 이 음식물쓰레기는 실시간 처리 방식으로 1분 이내에 분쇄가 완료되는데, 따로 번거롭게 음식물쓰레기를 배출할 필요가 없어 편리하고, 미생물(향균기능)이 악취 및 각종 유해세균을 없애 더욱 위생적이다. 또한 짧은 음식물 처리 시간은 한 달 기준 약 1,000원 미만의 전기료로 가계에 부담을 주지 않으며, 오히려 쓰레기봉투 값이 들지 않아 더욱 경제적이다. 특히 기존의 제품들은 성능이 좋으면 매우 큰 소음과 진동을 발생시키고, 소음과 진동이 작으면 처리 능력이 부족한 한계가 있었지만 다이손은 이를 크게 개선하여 탁월한 성능과 소음 절감 효과를 동시에 보여준다. 더불어 영구자석모터를 사용함으로써 고장의 염려가 없이 반영구적으로 사용할 수 있어 더없이 좋다. “다이손의 음식물분쇄기가 편리성, 환경성, 안전성, 경제성, 위생성, 실용성을 고루 갖춘 현존하는 국내 최고의 제품임을 자부합니다. 앞으로도 환경을 생각하는 더 혁신적인 제품들을 개발해 나가며, 철저한 A/S로 고객 감동을 실현해 나가고자 합니다.”  

한국형 음식물 처리에 적합한 ‘칼날 방식’ 채택 

다이손의 핵심기술은 칼날 방식에 있다. 기존의 맷돌 해머 방식 음식물분쇄기는 한국형 음식물을 처리함에 있어 다소 부족함이 있었다. 하지만 다이손은 회전판 원형홈(2mm)의 축소로 음식물을 매우 작게 분쇄하며, 딱딱하거나 섬유질이 많은 한국형 음식물도 미세하게 절삭이 가능하다. 특히 이중칼날 절삭으로 소음과 진동이 크게 감소되었으며 그로 인해 모터부하가 큰 폭으로 줄어들었다. 실제로 경인방송에서 실시한 시험에서는 다이손의 제품이 맷돌 방식의 제품보다 더 세밀한 분쇄가 가능하다는 것이 입증되었는데 분쇄가 까다로운 부추, 질긴 섬유질 음식물을  단 시간에 완벽하게 처리되었다. 

더욱 놀라운 기술은 다이손만의 미생물 과학에 숨겨져 있다. 다이손의 음식물분쇄기는 음식물을 분해시킴과 동시에 미생물을 음식물에 흡착시켜 배수관으로 흘려보낸다. 그렇게 배수통에서 생기는 미생물 방선균(세균과 곰팡이의 중간적인 형태)과 음식물쓰레기가 만나면 음식물쓰레기의 자연적인 분해가 이루어진다. “친환경적으로 음식물쓰레기를 해결할 수 있는 방법이 없을까 연구를 하다 미생물 공법을 음식물 분쇄기술에 융합하게 되었습니다. 다이손의 제품은 단순히 음식물을 분쇄하는 것에서 그치지 않고, 방선균을 이용해 음식물쓰레기로 인한 환경오염을 근본적으로 막아주는 스마트한 제품입니다.”

Multii-hybrid eco-friendly food waste disposer “Daison”

Every early morning, men in formal dress take the elevator in an apartment house with a food waste bag in hand. The malodorous food waste propagating germs in a moment is not just a pest in a family but becoming a current challenge to the government with a tremendous taxes squeezed from the common people and the earth suffering from an accelerating environmental pollution. Food waste generated domestically is 14,000 tons per day as of 2010 and the national food waste occurrence per head is 0.28 kg, which shows much higher results compared to advanced countries. This amounts to nearly 28 percent of the total waste occurrences and the government is annually spending over 1.8 trillion won for food waste disposal alone. Though there is some positive result since the enforcement of volume rate food waste disposal system, it still requires a more fundamental solution. We met president Moon Jong-gi of Daison Co. to hear a new solution for food waste disposal from him. 

‘Daison’ - the first step of a clean kitchen for woman 

President Moon Jong-gi, who had set out to develop Korean-style food waste crusher in 2001, succeeded in producing the one suited for Korean food culture in 2008 followed by a patent application. In 2010 he registered patents for many products as a result of devoting himself for many years to developing eco-friendly food waste crushers using microbes. He changed the firm name to Daison in 2010 and relocated the factory in extension to Yongin in 2012 and converted the company into a corporation circulating Daison’s food waste disposer in earnest. Currently, the company has launched basic, classic and premium in the model name of DS-66 and all-in-one DS-100. “I have been through so many trials and errors until I commercialized a food waste disposer for kitchen. But I stuck it out knowing it must be done by someone. After all, I succeeded in launching products with the passion of purely domestic technological teams.” 

Daison’s food waste disposer have obtained a number of patents so far and KC certification from Korea Testing & Research Institute and 2013-No.8 and 2013-No.49 from the Ministry of Environment. Daison’s food waste disposer by multi-hybrid method boasts of a strikingly simple use compared to the existing ones. After installing the crusher equipped with a permanent motor on the drain-outlet of the sink, turn on the water and switch it on, then everything leaks out from garbage disposal sink in 10 minutes after putting food waste in. This food waste finishes crushing within one minute in real-time disposal, so it’s convenience dispenses with discharging the burdensome food waste separately. It is more hygiene because the microbes (antibiotic function) remove bad odor and all harmful bacteria. Besides, because of such a short time for disposal of food waste, it incurs electric charges of less than a thousand won without a burden on household economy, but rather it is more economical because of saving the money spent for waste bags. Especially, while, with the existing products, good performance generates a very large noise and vibration and poor disposal capacity less noise and vibration, Daison has improved this problem wonderfully showing both excellent performance and the effect of reducing noise. Also, as it uses a permanent magnet motor, it couldn’t be better because of its semi-permanent use without worry about breakdown. “I am positive that Daison’s food waste disposer is currently the supreme product in the nation in terms of convenience, eco-friendliness, safety, economy, hygiene and practicality. In the future, too, we are going to develop more innovative products in environmental thoughts and realize customer satisfaction with a thorough after-sale service.” 

‘Edge form’ adopted to suit the disposal of Korean food waste 

Daison’s core technology lies in edge form. The existing hand-mill hammer-form food waste disposer was not enough to dispose of Korean food waste. However, Daison, by diminution into turn-plate circular groove (2mm), shatters food waste minutely capable of cutting hard or fibroid Korean food waste fully. Especially double-edge cutting decreases noise and vibration drastically and reduces the motor loads significantly. Actually, in an experiment carried out in Gyeongin Broadcasting, it was proved that Daison’s product is capable of more minute shattering than hand-mill form products, where it disposed of leek and other hard fibrous foods hard to shatter perfectly in a short time.  

More surprising technology lies hidden in Daison’s own microbiological science. Daison’s food waste disposer decomposes food and simultaneously adsorbs microbes to food to run it away to waste pipe. When microbial ray fungi (A transitional form between germ and mold) generated from slop basin and food waste meet this way, it decomposes food waste naturally. “While working on how to resolve food waste eco-friendly, I combined microbial method with food shattering technology. Daison’s product doesn’t simply shatter food but is also a smart one that keeps from environmental pollution caused by food waste using the ray fungi.”   

If Diason’s food waste disposer spreads more widely, it will save household routines at home and reduce greatly the inhabitants’ conflicts related to the increasing number of sanitary landfills by dint of the reduction of waste discharge at local governments. On a national basis, it will also save the tremendous taxes squeezed from the common people spent on the collection and disposal of food waste and further take the lead in reducing carbon emission, a global topic, renewing the state’s image. “We promise to adhere to the company philosophy of ‘thinking of the environment and people’ and return our love received from customers to the society.”
