Opening the way to solve water shortage in the world by using rainwater
The earth is getting drier. And the problem of water shortage is not only for Africa but it has now become a serious matter that is threatening our lives everywhere. The Society of Rain Masters held a policy forum with the topic 'Change the Paradigm of Water Management' last February at the National Assembly Committee Hall to prepare for water shortage. Especially Seoul city held '2014 Water Circulation Expo' last April at City Hall Square as part of Seoul Rainwater Saving Campaign Project'. In the Expo, T&C Korea's 'Rainwater Tree' attracted a great interest from the audience. Rainwater Tree is expected to largely contribute to saving rainwater. Korea's top bilingual magazine Power Korea has met T&C Korea's CEO Gyuhwa Jang.
Eco-friendly water saving & supplying device 'Solar RainPuri' applied for a patent
Jang established a company in 1992. He imported advanced European countries' industrial facilities & technologies for cars, metal, metal silicon for solar batteries, special containers for delivering chemicals which is used for semiconductor manufacturing process. Especially he adopted the patented technique of large plastic HDPE water tank production from a German plastic blow moulding company Rikutec GmbH & Co. KG who has been keeping the 20 years of partnership with Jang. Jang built a factory in Haman County, South Gyeongsang Province to start manufacturing eco-friendly water tank from July 2013. Jang said "Rikutec's water tank, made of HDPE, used the assembly thermal compressing welding method which does not produce CO2 or volatile organic solvent and is good for making large water tank."
Jang started to have interest in rainwater harvesting facilities thanks to the government's regulations on rainwater harvesting facilities and has been introducing related underground water tank and rainwater drinking system. When he watched the people who drank polluted water in Africa and Southeast Asia on the TV, Jang decided to do something for solving water shortage in the world. Then he developed the integrated independent rainwater drinking system loaded with water saving & purifying device. The water tank is placed in a container which is covered with solar panel which keeps the water when it rains and used for generating electricity to run the tank. Jang has applied for a patent and it will be released as 'Solar RainPuri' when approved. Jang said "if it is used in the water shortage areas like Africa, Southeast Asia and the remote areas it will be a good solution for the people who live there. It will also be a good alternative for the Korea's southwest coast islands as the seawater desalination facilities are costly and difficult to run in the islands."
Drinking water solution and educational effect through wooden motif design
Jang actually started to focus on developing rainwater drinking device when he happened to know about the water shortage in the Korea's southwest coast islands and eventually invented Rainwater Tree and applied for a patent in 2014. Jang said "one Rainwater Tree can save 1 ton of water a year. If it's 100 then 100 tons of water can be saved. 100 tons of water can provide for one year if 130 residents consume 2 liters of water a day."
Jang is currently carrying on 'Rainwater Tree Planting Project' and 'Rainwater Farm Project' and has completed the tree-shaped design to spread the importance of water and the value of rainwater. Rainwater Tree is made of stainless steel and is designed for educational purpose but is also good for landscaping and tourism resources. The biggest advantage though is that it can make people to take the water shortage problem seriously. Jang said "T&C Korea wishes to reborn as a leading company in the environmental field through innovative ideas so that we can contribute to creative economy. We will also plant Rainwater Tree in the 50 water shortage countries for free to give a practical help for those who are suffering from lack of water." Rainwater Tree and Solar RainPuri have been exhibited in various expos in Korea and they are expected to be displayed in World Water Forum in Daegu in April next year. Rainwater Tree and Solar RainPuri have high possibility to be exported to Africa and Asia and Power Korea hopes that they will help the people who are suffering from lack of water and will be a solution for the water shortage problem in the world.
