애완동물이 이제는 반려동물로 인식되고 있다. 가족 그 이상의 위치에서 사람과 공생하며 서로의 부족한 부분을 메워주고 서로를 챙기며 새로운 삶을 만들어가는 사람들이 그만큼 늘고 있다는 뜻이다.
최근 들어 반려동물에 관한 관심이 늘고 있는 이유로는 유명연예인들의 SNS활동을 통한 자신의 반려동물 소개, 독신가정 증가, 핵가족화 등등을 꼽을 수 있을 것이다.
하지만 문제가 있다. 그저 귀여워서, 예뻐서 키우는 사람이 증가하고 있는 만큼 제대로 된 인식과 방법을 습득하지 않은 채 키우는 것이다.

동물을 위한 병원 운영에 만전 기해
최근 반려동물의 급격한 증가에 대해 김석환 원장은 그들에 대해 충분히 이해하고 사랑하라고 전한다. 내 반려자와 같은 마음으로 그들을 대하고 어떤 상황에서든 끝까지 책임을 지려는 마음가짐이 중요하다고 강조한다.
사실 김석환 원장은 동물을 치료하는 일에 적합하지 않을 수도 있다. 동물을 너무 사랑하는 그이기에 병원에 찾아오는 동물은 보통 아파서 오는 경우가 많아 동물이 느끼는 아픔에 의한 스트레스를 많이 받기 때문이다.
하지만 그들을 위한 진정한 치료를 할 수 있다는 장점도 있다. 그래서 아름다운 동물병원을 찾는 고객들은 타병원에서 느끼지 못했던 섬세한 진료를 경험할 수 있게 된다.
우선 예방접종 한번을 할 때도 20~30분가량 진료를 하며 안구, 귀, 심장 청진 등 머리부터 발끝까지 세심하게 살펴 앞으로 있을 질병의 예방에도 만전을 기하고 있다.
또한, 말하지 못하는 동물의 특성에 맞게 병원을 찾았을 때는 의사가 진료를 하게 되지만 그렇지 못한 경우엔 보호자가 아픈 곳을 신경써줄 수 있도록 기본적인 관리방법을 보호자에게 교육하기도 한다.
더욱이 진료기록 및 경과 사진을 모두 사진으로 저장해 회복되는 모습을 보호자가 관찰할 수 있도록 하고 있으며, 보호자석에서도 진료 기록이 담긴 모니터를 볼 수 있도록 배려해 투명한 의료서비스를 제공하고 있다.
직원 교육에도 신경을 쓰고 있는데, 입사 면접 때 동물을 좋아하는지에 대해 가장 먼저 물어보며, 동물에 해가 되는 행동을 했을 경우 퇴사조치를 기본적인 기준으로 삼고 직원 채용을 하고 있다. 또, 직원 교육시간에 내 자식을 대하듯 동물을 대하라는 말을 강조하며, 현재 병원에 갖춰진 시설과 약품 등 진료에 있어 한 치의 소홀함도 없이 임해주길 강조한다고 밝혔다.
이런 노력으로 송도에 위치한 아름다운 동물병원에는 입소문을 듣고 찾아오는 타 지역 고객이 많이 늘었다.
동물 진료는 기계가 할 수 있는 부분도 분명 있지만 의사 스스로 오감을 동원해 진료해야 하는 경우가 많기 때문에 최대한 동물과 교감하며 치료하는 것이 중요하다고 한다.
그렇기 때문에 위에서 말했듯이 시간이 오래 걸리지만 고객 입장에서는 조금이라도 더 자신의 반려동물에 신경써주는 의사의 정성이 전달돼 입소문이 꼬리를 물고 먼 곳까지 전해진 것 같다고 김석환 원장은 감사함을 전했다.
앞으로 그는 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 전문화 된 동물병원을 만들고 싶다고 한다. 기존의 동물병원보다 좀 더 전문적인 의료서비스를 제공할 수 있는 그런 병원을 만드는 것이 목표라고 전했다. 2015년이면 개원 3주년을 맞는 아름다운 동물병원은 앞으로 동물을 위한 병원, 체계적인 의료서비스를 제공하는 공간으로 자리매김하겠다는 뜻으로 지금도 말 못하는 반려동물 치료에 매진하고 있다.

As pets can fill up an emptiness human beings can often feel more and more people nowadays are living with a pet or more. And not only people were encouraged by celebrities who introduce their pets through SNS but also many people are now living alone and families are getting smaller in size. All is ok but the problem is that many people do not have a proper idea to raise a pet; whether they are aware of the fact the pets also can feel happiness and pains and should be respected as a living being. The director of Beautiful Pet Hospital Kim advises to love and understand your pets as much as you can. He emphasizes on having a responsible mind for pets no matter what situation you are in. In fact Kim might have a wrong profession as he gets a lot of stress whenever he sees a suffering pet because he loves them too much. But then this can make him a perfect pet doctor as he can treat them with all his heart. And that is why customers feel his delicate care which they cannot often experience in other pet hospitals. Even when he vaccinate a pet he checks everything from eyes, ears, heart, head to foot for over 20 to 30 minutes to prevent a disease. He also educates the owner of the pet about the basic management methods. He archives all the treatment process by taking photos so that the customers can observe it in their seat through the monitor provided for them. It is a transparent medical service. When recruiting a staff he first asks whether he/she loves pets and when a staff did something harmful to a pet he/she gets fired according to the regulation. He trains his staff to love pets as if they are their children and also emphasizes to use the facilities and medicines with care. Thanks to this meticulous management customers from other areas willingly travel to Songdo, Busan where the hospital is located. Kim said that machines can treat a pet but doctors have to communicate with pets by using their all five senses. For the reason his hospital is so popular, Kim reckons that he spends quite a lot of time for each pet and this might touch each customer. His goal is to build a more specialized pet hospital where customers can easily access. It will have been 3 years by next year since Beautiful Pet Hospital opened and Power Korea hopes that Kim's passion for pets will inspire many people who love pets.
