Korea-Vietnam FTA to be settled within the year for sustainable bilateral development.


The General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party, Nguy?n Ph? Tr?ng visited Korea from 1 October 2014 to 4 October 2014. Trong had a summit meeting with Park and participated in the official dinner. Park and Trong highly praised that the relationship between the two countries has been growing by leaps and bounds since the ties in 1992, and emphasized on strengthening the strategic cooperation partnership established in 2009 between the two countries. For this, they expressed their will to promote cooperation in various fields such as politics, security, national defence, commerce, social culture, and regional & international issues. They also agreed to find ways for activating committees between the two governments. They agreed to activate an existing cooperation channel and high-level exchanges between the governments, national assemblies and political parties in order to strengthen the politics and security fields. They agreed to carry out and develop practical cooperation projects such as expanding trade and investment, constructing large scale infrastructure, labour, industry, agriculture, and finance through Korea-Vietnam FTA in order to support a sustainable development. They also agreed on the importance of improving the environment for private investments. Trong praised that the Korean companies' investments in Vietnam are contributing to the development of Vietnamese economy and the Vietnamese government will do their best to make friendly conditions for Korean corporate investments.

They agreed to promote exchanges in various fields such as education, science, culture, sports and tourism based on the fact that cultural exchanges are the basis of developing the relationship between the two countries. They also agreed to double the effort to improve the safety and welfare of the expatriates in both countries. They agreed to promote multi-cultural families as they will play an important role for youths exchanges in the future. Park expressed concern about North Korea's nuclear testing and ballistic missiles, and North Korea's obtain of nuclear weapons are not acceptable, and emphasized that they must give up the nuclear programmes for peace and prosperity. For this, both countries reconfirmed 2013 Korea-Vietnam Joint Statement, and called on North Korea to carry out their promise agreed on six-party talks at UN mandate and 19 September Joint Statement. Trong reconfirmed the Vietnam's support for South Korea's plans to promote communication, ease the tension and build a sustainable peace with North Korea for peaceful unification.

Park and Trong emphasized on maintaining peace and stability, and the importance of ocean security and freedom of voyage, and agreed that the related countries have to solve the issues according to the international laws, and to carry out 2002 Declaration on the Conduct(DOC), and to do their best to settle down Code of Conduct(COC) as soon as possible. By commemorating 25th anniversary of the Korea-ASEAN Dialogue Partnership, they shared the same thoughts that the Korea-ASEAN Special Summit from 11 December to 12 December in Busan will be a milestone for Korea-ASEAN Strategic Partnership. Trong promised to support and participate in the summit and Park showed her gratitude. Trong, in response, showed his gratitude to Korea's courteous, friendly and attentive hospitality and hoped that Park will visit Vietnam again on her convenience. Park thanked Trong and accepted his invitation.


President Park held a summit meeting with the president of C?te d'Ivoire, Alassane Dramane Ouattara.


President Park held a summit meeting on 7 October with Ouattara, who is the first president of the country to visit South Korea, and exchanged opinions on economic and educational development and cooperation between the two countries, and discussed about the situation on the Korean peninsular. The summit is part of her efforts for South Korea's African diplomatic relations followed by the Korea-Uganda summit meeting at the 69th UN General Assembly as well as inviting the president of Mozambique. C?te d'Ivoire is the first African country who tied a diplomatic relation with South Korea in 1961, and recently their high officials visits to Korea have been very active. Ouattara has been maintaining good relations with Korea since he worked as a vice-president of IMF and his country's presidential campaign, and revealed his interest and expectations about South Korea's rapid development. Both countries discussed about economic cooperations such as trade & investment, educational & cultural & consular cooperation, and international cooperation. In addition, Park explained about the situation on the Korean peninsular and exchanged the situation in Africa.
